I don't think you would be able to benefit from that at all. You've probably still used healing surges etc, så extended rest will have its place And in the case of not being in combat.. (thereby not using daily's and Healing surges) You will in the exact same state as if you did have combats...

The 2 random encounters could be hard? they might end up spending wast resources surviving? And you're telling me you're still not going to give them a penny(or Action point ;) )? Surviving a pack of Crancky horny Ownbears should really really count as something big !

So paragon feat + Scale is better than shield + Scale? in that case.. why not go Scale + shield + lightning reflex -.- only difference is that you dont get +1 damage for holding a weapon in 2 hands..

Its not always the optimal idea to stack on Healing. As you see from the power, they cxan spend a healing surge = they will have one less for a later time. Now, in the specific encounter it might be useful, but the party still spend resources. Remember, if the party isn't too critically...
