D&D 5E (2014) Is It Impossible To Benefit From 'One With Shadows'?

It's often overlooked as it isn't truely RaW but the official DM screen does have rules/suggestions for the distance sounds travel. No idea how it ended up there but not in the books

    D&D 5E (2014) Counterspell vs Counterspell

That sage advice isn't even a ruling just a blatant restating of the RaW with an example. Feel free to counterspell counterspells all day long. Bonus points for extending the counterspell chain.

    Rules help: Familiars

Most spells that have a duration for one. They generally have a range requirement at onset. Unless otherwise noted they don't automatically dissipate when the caster walks away. Side note: pet peeve of mine but Crawford tweets are not sage advice.

    Rules help: Familiars

I suppose we see the potential for ambiguity in the first sentence differently. Since I see little to none IMO ruling otherwise would have opened a can of worms for any other single action that has lingering effects and a range requirement at onset. If you want to take an action and use...

    Rules help: Familiars

Like a lot of his other twitter rulings JC didn't really have a lot of choice. Intended interaction or not there'd have to be errata to rule any other way. I agree with the cheesiness, I only used the option with my chain lock when we were in real trouble because it just felt off having an...

    Rules help: Familiars

The full relevant Help action text: "Alternatively, you can aid a friendly creature in attacking a creature within 5 feet of you. You feint, distract the target, or in some other way team up to make your ally’s attack more effective. If your ally attacks the target before your next turn, the...

D&D 5E (2014) Prince Of The Apocalypse question (possible spoiler)

Just a red herring with some weird side effects afaik.

...is that a common thing at your table?

D&D 5E (2014) Princes of the Apocalypse Adventure Hooks

I had my players roll for them ( I nixed one I didn't like) and gave them a brief teaser of the information. They then had the option of incorporating it into their backstory or not. It actually ended up working better than I had expected. That said the retooled list above does sound more...

D&D 5E (2014) [PotA] Cult symbols in Halls of the Hunting Axe

I don't recall the Howling hall lore (we haven't made it that far) but you could make the carvings relatively recent additions from when the hall was used as a neutral meeting ground for the cults at some point in the past.

D&D 5E (2014) Are monks proficient in Unarmed Strikes?

Personally I don't think its a weird or convoluted change just unfortunate game term verbiage. It was a much simpler fix than having to put a disclaimer tag on every ability that required a weapon but didn't want to work with unarmed and less sloppy than a "commonsense" disclaimer on unarmed...

    Green-Flame Blade = magic weapon?

The person who asked before me has received a response and the RaI made clear. The weapon portion of GFB et al is not inherently magical for resistance purposes. https://twitter.com/JeremyECrawford/status/687819318038409216

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

seebs Agreed. As an aside IMO a lot of the weirdness comes from the different meaning(s) cast had when spells are involved. While cast generally means throw/emit/direct/shoot spells often use it in the metal working sense to mean shaping/molding. The meanings are generally delineated by...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock and Repelling Blast

This statement misrepresents the text which i directly quoted But and then are different and the difference matters in this context. I drove home normally but stopped at the convenience store.
