Put some demure, pointed ears on this and you have my impression.

Fafhrd: Masculine!

(Sorry, that woman does nothing for me.)

I like elves - well no, I don't - but I prefer elves to be dangerous, fey creatures as they appear in Poul Anderson's Three Hearts and Three Lions. Their appearance should be slightly alien - though perhaps not the way Sigdel describes Mialee looks to him.

I actually prefer my elves to be nonexistant. I like dwarves, halflings, humans, orcs, and even gnomes, but I absolutely despise elves.

Anybody watch Lost ? Who's the actress who plays Kate? Yes I'm even too lazy to google. What have you done to me, internet?

Anyway, slap some sizeable pointy ears on her and you have my perfect idea of a female elf.

Elves should be regal, majestic, and more attractive than humans. They need to be taller than humans with strong features. Frail, skinny people without any curves or flesh on their bones are neither attractive nor elvish.

And I like anime elves, usually.

No cold medicine this time guys! Oh, and I would like to thank you all for your concern about me being sick. Or lack of... ;)
I just don't like how... lame the elves look in the PHB. Or how they looked in the 80's and early 90's. Back then they looked like Vulcans with Jerry-curls. Ewwwww. But I guess one persons exotic is another's retarded. Although I don't mind the Anime elves so much, I don't like it when the make the ears so friggin long. Long enough to be exotic, but not so long they can be braided.
Despite what those lying commercials say Keebler Elves do not have the chocolate in side of them. It's all bony, bloody, and they scream when you bite the head off. Total buzz kill...

Sounds just like Moorcock's Elric elves. Alien, cruel beings from another dimension, that have all sort of supernatural powers (from their patron lords of chaos & summoned entities). Who complelty amoral & are so detached from the world they are just letting it pass them by.

Haven't read Pratchett & am not implying he "ripped Moorcock off". Just from your intial post, that statement could be used to describe Moorcock's elves perfectly.

Both Pratchett and Moorcock ripped off mythology - elfs were not nice people! No, not at all. The Drow are closer than wood elfs to mythology. (Norse or Celtic, take your pick.)

Poul Anderson's The Broken Sword has another look at not nice elfs, and I believe was written before Moorcock started the Elric series.

So. Hunan style, with a side of crab rangoon.
