The Faerie Woods [Knight Otu Judging]

We must go around left or right. Right's probably best., he thinks.

Nars reports back with his findings. "I, ah, don't see an, er, easy way to do it. The interior is open, but covered with rubble. The redcap has a small camp set up on the far side. We should go around this way (left or right) and try to stay low and quiet. I will start with my crossbow, unless you think we should close as fast as possible, Percy." Nars reloads his crossbow with a cold iron bolt. When within 30 feet, he fires his first shot. If Percy directs him to close right away, he will instead draw his cold iron dagger and sickle and open with a stab at where he hopes it's vitals are.

OOC:
Crossbow attack +4, damage 1d8 + 1d6(sneak attack); Dagger attack +3, damage 1d4 + 2 + 1d6(sneak attack)

Ishmael takes out a scroll from his belt, offering it to Percy.

"Milady Percy, could thou please cast the spell upon this scroll of Strength upon this humble knight? The gestures contained therein are too complex to be easily followed while I am in soldier's accoutrement."

After Percy casts the spell upon him, he hefts his magicked glaive and gets ready for combat. He won't charge into the fray. Instead, he approaches the fey cautiously and keeps between the Redcap and the Sorceress.

Here is a layout. The party scouted the area from beyond the southeast corner. "RC" is the redcap. Let me know if you want to circle and/or have a specific formation in mind.

*Editted above post so that Nars suggests going right and trying to stay low below the rubble.*

Nars will be toward the front, hoping to get a shot off before everyone closes into melee.

Percy

OOC: I'll roll my own spellcraft attempt to read the scroll. I believe I need a 22. I roll a total of 16

Percy focuses on the scroll. She frowns. "I'm sorry Ismael. I can't read this." She lowers the scroll, and swings out one hand, arm bent at the elbow, palm up. "You see, I wanted to develop a spell to read magic writings. But you see, then I would have had to drop my 'mending' spell, and then what would I do if I got a hole in my clothes? You see?"

"Anyway," she says, snapping back to business. "Let's give Nars a chance to strike first. Nars, hurry now, while you're still invisible and head around to keep him from just running off. Then fire when ready and shout for us to join you. The rest of us will stick together and attack when we hear you. Let's go."

OOC: Percy will cast magic missile at the first opportunity.

"Ah, Percy, the redcap is about 70 yards away. I'd, er, rather we all move up, ah, together. I'll, ah, move around behind him, but you should all be close when I shoot."

OOC: Those are 5ft squares on the map, right Patlin? That would make the diagonal of the keep around 70 yards.

ooc: Had to refresh my memory on this one, been a long time.

Scroll Mishaps: When a mishap occurs, the spell on the scroll has a reversed or harmful effect. Possible mishaps are given below.

A surge of uncontrolled magical energy deals 1d6 points of damage per spell level to the scroll user.

Spell strikes the scroll user or an ally instead of the intended target, or a random target nearby if the scroll user was the intended recipient.

Spell takes effect at some random location within spell range.

Spell’s effect on the target is contrary to the spell’s normal effect.

The scroll user suffers some minor but bizarre effect related to the spell in some way. Most such effects should last only as long as the original spell’s duration, or 2d10 minutes for instantaneous spells.

Some innocuous item or items appear in the spell’s area.

Spell has delayed effect. Sometime within the next 1d12 hours, the spell activates. If the scroll user was the intended recipient, the spell takes effect normally. If the user was not the intended recipient, the spell goes off in the general direction of the original recipient or target, up to the spell’s maximum range, if the target has moved away.

Concentrating intently, Ishmael reads his scroll of Bull's Strength. A frown on his face and sweat on his brow, he struggles to control the unfamilliar magic, but it gets away from him. Slipping from it's original target, the enhanced strength instead falls upon the person with whom Ishmael was last conversing. Persephone feels much stronger.
