S1: The Strange Case of Aif Jenkins' Farm (E13 judge) - Concluded

Manzanita

First Post
November 30. 5:36 pm. About 25 minutes until dark.

The party spur their horses into action, intending to save the farmhouse and possible inhabitants from orc invasion.

With no attempt at secrecy, it is no surpise that they are spotted. Everyone can hear the blast from a horn from the orc sentries near the farmhouse. Evidently these orcs carry horns, just as the ones slain on the road did.

It is evident now that there were 2 orcs and a leashed dog outside the farmhouse. These three figures, after sounding their horn, head towards the house. It is unlikely that the party could catch them before they enter, but they could try.

The three orcs further afield slow and form a circle, greataxes out.

The party can continue towards the three orcs, or change course towards the farmhouse. The two red-bandana'd creatures reach the shed and pause, looking back.

Banion is normally a creature of stealth, but he doubts his horse is of like disposition. Since speed is of the essense, he will make no attempt to hide. He will encourage the horse to its top speed.

"Parley! Parley! Let us speak, if you wish peace."

OK, that ought to cause projectiles to come flying our way... which will resolve any lingering doubts as to the intentions of these men. Banion sends over the link.

Looks like you're slightly closer to the house than the three orcs in the field. The orcs have no bows in evidence. Juliana approaches the house and can hear shouts in orcish from within. The house is shaped like a capital 'L', and you are approaching from behind the tall part. The two orcs and their dog have run around the house and out of sight. There are no doors evident on the side you are approaching.

Will the others attack the orcs in the field? Or change course. Don't roll initiative unless you plan to attack in melee. If you want to shoot or cast spells, state the distance at which you wish to initiate hostilities and make your rolls.

Banion doesn't intend to attack anyone until he knows for sure that these people are the highwaymen they resemble. It's unlikely, but these Orcs could be the farmers he's intent on saving. If it does come to a fight, he intends to stay mounted and throw mindblades. Like Julianna, he's heading toward the house... it's the most likely place to find any civilians in need of rescue.

The orcs are equipped almost identically to the ones you met on the highway. You have met no other orcs since entering the Vastermarch. Orcs do not tend to intermingle with men and elves here like they do in Orussus.

Beamer says over the mindlink, Those two up by the shed are the ones we saw run across the road earlier. Doesn't tell us whether they are friend or foe though.
To himself, I wish I could get of this damn beast, but if we have to flee I'd be overtaken for sure. I just hope I can stay on and use my spells when it comes to that.

He doesn't think it is worth firing his crossbow while trying to hang onto the horse at a gallop so he just hangs on for now.

Banion doesn't want to take a chance on assaulting an innocent, even though he recognizes the chance is very small. He's not so thick he expects that the orcs are really farmers...

ok. At this point, I guess we do need initiatives. The group rounds the corner. All are mounted, Eusebius on his mule, the rest on their warhorses. At this point they see three groups of orcs. One group is to the north, composed of the three orcs who were coming through the field with greataxes at hand. The are approximately 100 feet from the party. The second group is a pair of orcs just emerging from the barn, also with greataxes, approximately 100 feet to the party's East. The third group is near the door to the house. One is outside the door aiming a shortbow at the party. A wardog is growling nearby. Another orc is visible inside the door, sword in hand.

Initiative:
Eusebius, Boog, Beamer, Banion,
Orcs
Juliana

There was no healing done after that first battle. This could be b/c Boddynocks has hardly posted since then. If anyone wants a cure spell, it can be cast retroactively. My record of
HPs: Beamer, Banion, Juliana - full.
Boog: 21 of 29
Eusebius: 26 of 37

PS. the map will shrink and become easier to read as (or if) everyone converges
