OK, Spuds really was pretty stupid.

I think Spuds (and his gals) would disagree.

OK, I'll admit it though...one of my characters had a war dog named Spuds. [hanging head in shame]

Marcarana

Well, my memory is a blur now...I was born in the 60's and everything seems to have happened in the 80's.

By the way, which decade unleased the Marcarana upon us!

My gosh, who can forget that.

That would have been right about 1995 or 1996.

Lost Soul,

You were mentioning 90's nostalgia and neon clothes. Check your memory again. Neon colored clothing was all 80's. Neon yellow, green, blue, pink etc... were all mid 80's colors. I know this for a fact. Back in the early to mid 90's when Pearl Jam and Nirvana were big, I was flipping through the stations and saw one of their videos on MTV. Everyone was wearing dark somber colors: Brown, black, hunter green, stripes etc.. The much was dark, depressing and angry. I turned to the next station, which is VH1 in our line up and they had a rerun of American Bandstand from 1985. The kids were all wearing bright lively clothes, white, yellow, bright orange, light blue etc.. and were dancing to Katrina and the Waves, walking on Sunshine. They all looked happy, dancing their lives away to the music. They wouldn't become that dour, somber lot until 5 years later when they had graduated college and realized there weren't any jobs available for them. I know, I was one of them. Now if we can just convince some of the girls today to wear parachute pants.

[Zooming back to the present...]

I would have to say Arwin, Princess of Elves is not a bad draw either, even without parachute pants. Let's just say I've got my tickets :)

The "I am too sexy for this shirt." is from the 90's, not the 80's.

They did not even mention satanic connections or suicide. Probably some of our best press yet.

That's probably the faintest praise I've seen in quite some time.

I think that its sort of funny that no one has mentioned U2 or REM in this thread. They are still, IMHO, vital bands that were alternative back in a time when that word actually meant something. If anything, I'm nostalgic for the 80s because "alternative" wasn't just marketing shorthand for "it has guitars". I like a lot of current music by young bands, but I can't listen to the radio.

Oh yeah, and I guess I'm glad I came of age in the 80s because whenever I see kids downtown wearing those baggy pants, I just think back to my thin, black leather tie worn proudly with a pink, button-down collar'd dress shirt and rugby pants and, well, I just can't bring myself to laugh at anyone else more than I laugh at myself.

Cheers

For those in the UK, you could also add bands like The Wonderstuff to that, a band that described themselves (with some justification) as "best band in Britain. Best band in the world apart from REM". Really good songs.
