Just as a break from gathering info about the new edition...

What fun thing have you done this year with D&D?

In my case, there's been lots of fun things, but the one I'm proudest of is running D3 Vault of the Drow using the original monochrome cover adventure, converting it on the fly to 4E for my 25h level game!

Over to you...

With D&D? Nothing.

I did run a SWSE campaign, which had its moments but was overall a disappointment. And I've played a couple of sessions of Numenera and one of Gumshoe, both of which went extremely well.

Played a game with Flumph PCs. A short session of world exploration with a very weird perspective. The players went wild on making theories about how those strange two-legged creatures worked. They lawfully-goodly ate an unrepentant Illithid (and his psionic cristalls, because cristalls), and finally made friends with a nearby village.

We also had plenty of Smurf references, because Flumph sounds very similar to the German name of the franchise (Schlumpf). Not only was there an evil wizard, but the characters were aptly named Ascetic Flumph, Illusion Flumph, Shiny Flumph and Shifty Flumph.

I started my second campaign set in my homebrew setting, which this time is significantly more flashed out than it was three years ago. We switched from Castles & Crusades to Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea last month, which turned out to be a great choice, and we're now turning to playing on roll20, which should significantly increase the frequency at which we play. Especially since the number of players doubled last game.
This should even get a lot more fun once events really got rolling and the players start taking charge.

Heists, so many heists, in 4E. We had an eight hour session with only one combat and only one actual person getting killed quite recently. Maybe I should be running Leverage, but the players love it as is so...

Baba Yaga's Hut (well, that may have been 2013).

Then Sigil. Then a mass battle with Githyanki in Sigil. Then the revelation that Sigil is an outgrowth of the Codex of the Infinite Planes. Then the PC carrying the book of corrupted shadow material from the Codex that was seeking to return to it staying in character and being destroyed by the Lady of Pain instead of suddenly having a change of heart.

Good times, good times.

I only got 2 sessions of my Goblins of Eberron game in. They managed to organize a Warforged Nation invasion of New Cyre, and are currently infiltrating New Metrol to wreak havoc before the warforged army arrives.

By infiltrating I mean they've kidnapped the prince, stolen the treasury (and showed some restraint for the first time ever by releasing the kidnapped banker), and are about to be confronted by the combined host of the New Cyran guard.

Been running Rise of the Runelords, which my players have enjoyed a lot. For the best single session, definitely actually scaring players with hauntings (and figuring out what I've been doing wrong for years).

For D&D proper, ran some 5e. Low-level silliness in the Caves of Chaos was a good time, but definitely not the start of a campaign.

Cheers!

We're playing a lot of Pathfinder - Skull and Shackles with a half-orc summoner captain (me), an inquisitor shipmaster, a rogue crossbower/artillerist as first mate, and an otter-folk master of arms. Totally made the awesome Rosie Cusswell my cohort and gave her the first secondary ship in my fleet. My shipmaster and first mate are so good at Profession (sailor) that I haven't had to invest much in it. I came to captaincy after serving as cook's assistant - truly the route to power in piracy is through the galley.

Also volunteered to take over an infant Jade Regent game online for a missing GM. That's going pretty slowly, though. That is kind of the nature of online games. A lot of hurry up and wait.

Guide of Modos
What fun thing have you done this year with D&D?

I used :dndnext:as inspiration to design a core RPG from the ground up, using ideas that work (like higher numbers are always better) and ignoring ones that don't (like attacks of opportunity, or alignment).

Funny thing is, I must be on the same wavelength as the 5th edition designers, because as WotC released more development columns on D&D Next, I noticed more things in common between my system and theirs.

Granted, ModosBanner.jpg is a very different game from :dndnext:, but it'll be fun to compare my free rulebook to D&D's $50 one.
