D&D 5e Classy NPCs

zurg

First Post
I've been putting together some stat blocks for NPCs that are based on PC classes. I'm planning on using these for PC opposition, party followers, quick characters for new players, etc. I'd like some feedback on improving them.

Some of the design decisions i've made....
I used the spirit of the class powers and abilities to come up with abilities that are easy to run.

I've made one stat block per the four tiers of play to maximize the differential between the stat blocks.

Since the CR of the creature was typically calculated the same at the beginning of tier vs the end of the tier, I created the stat block using the last HD/level of the tier (example 9HD beginning of +4 proficiency tier vs 12HD last tier entry with +4 proficiency).

I did not included non-spell daily powers until the class gained more than one use of such powers. I felt this was fair representation of the readiness of the NPC when they faced the PCs.

I've added what i think are level appropriate magical items. I may revisit this to add some wondrous items later.

Thanks for all the wonderful tools like the 'Challenge Rating Sheet' and the 'chrome stat block creator'.

Made some revisions. I thought the two weapon expertise was wasted since it equates to average damage anyway. Added a reduced 'Action Surge' type ability. I've also added some suggested magical gear.

Very nice and very much looking forward to other classed npcs as well.

I think you should include dailies as soon as they are available. It's always been the D&D way that NPCs and monsters are "fully charged" by default, and it specifically is stated otherwise if so.

Eldritch Knight....

I like it, but I would encourage you to "color outside the lines" and make the NPCs not strictly follow the same creation rules as PC classes.

Also, some of the optional equipment would probably have be significant enough to change the CR. It would be helpful to include CR adjustments with the equipment.
