D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Storm King's Thunder: Waterdeep

First Post
"Aye" Uric replies to Gul "We have found nothing here about this Ironslag. Where ever we go we need to find more about this foul place..."

OOC: Uric is willing to go which ever way but he really wants to find out more about the giants and what they are up too.

OOC: Go to Yartar, ask around for the kobold.

On way and around Yartar, Gul will use the rod to search for more Vonindod fragments.

Seems to be the only solid location we have? Apart from the Purple Rocks;-)

The parties trip is largely mundane, encountering caravans and other common transport between the towns nearest Waterdeep. You eventually arrive in the town of Red Larch.

Named for a distinctive stand of red larch trees that were cut down when the village was founded, Red Larch is situated on a fertile patch of land on the western outskirts of the Sumber Hills, at a place where the Kheldell Path and the Cairn Road meet the Long Road. Despite its small size, Red Larch offers many fine amenities, including the Allfaiths Shrine, a place of worship that caters to multiple faiths; the Swinging Sword, a respectable three-story stone inn with a high-pitched roof; and the Helm at Highsun, a ramshackle yet lively tavern.

As you approach the town the wind picks up. The skies above seem to start to turn. The weather shifts suddenly, and crackles of lightning start to glint through the clouds as they gather overhead. Closer to the center of town you can see that many guards and civilians have been injured, and a cloud giant towers over the middle of the place. Many bugbears and strange feather-robed initiates guard this giantess. She manipulates a 12 inch diameter orb in the middle of town.

OOC: Combat rounds. Party can start from anywhere in the highlighted red area and take their action. The opposition goes next. Using this to weed out characters that are not actively being played.

More Giants.

Koldan growled under his breath while already moving forward, unslinging his crossbow and using the claw under his wrist to winch back the drawstring, all while whispering vows of enmity in Elvish under his breath. All of his sight was focused on that towering creature, that being that treated their lives as if ants under its massive boots.

Everywhere they went. He had seen Triboar, he had listened to his new companions and the Hill Giants they had somehow bargained with. But this ... This was slaughter. This was Triboar all over again.

" I'll handle the big one," Koldan declared to his allies, " Safe to say they've found another Vonindod piece. Take to the others, save the townsfolk where you can."

With that, the eagle eyes of the hunter flashed with a golden glow, eyes narrowing to become hawk-like in their sheen. Everything around him went to greyscale, the color bleeding from the world while his focus sharpened on the Cloud Giant, preparing to bring it down. Dropping to one knee, Koldan recalled the teachings of his mentor, two additional bolts twirling into his fingers while the first was released. The muscles in his forearm burned as he latched the claw into the string of the crossbow and pulled it back again, the strain enough to break another man's arm, but not Koldan's.

Three shots in rapid succession sailed across the sky, seeking to fell a being who called that blue haven its home. But it was not home. This was the hard dirt, the realm of The Hunter. Small as he may have been in the face of such a large creature, Koldan knew its size mattered not, not down here.

The bigger they were, the harder they'd fall.

Game Info:
Fire Giants attacked Triboar looking for a "Vonindod", which they called a weapon that was in many parts. Fire Giant Duke Zalto of Ironslag wants this to "win".

Darathra was a Harper: she gave me a Platinum Badge of Triboar to present to Dorkath The Orkath to let him know of the attack.

There is a Kobold in the area of Yartar named "Lightwalker", a craftsman with 'some incredible weapons'.

There is a 5,000 GP Bounty on "The Weevil", a Dwarven Brigand last seen at Xantharl's Keep as a stable cleaner. The reward is for delivering him alive to authorities in Mirabar.

Ghelryn Foehammer has given us a letter of recommendation to King Morinn and Queen Tithmel of Citadel Fellbar. Ghelryn will also give us a 10% discount on customized weapons and armor in Triboar.

Harshnag is a Frost Giant of FORCE GREY should be told about the Giants. Apparently his company was 'mostly murdered' after an encounter with a Dragon and a Traitor.

The Kraken Society is a criminal organization that worships 'some tentacled horror of the deep', and was been gathering artifacts related to the Ancient Giant Civilization that was destroyed in a war with Dragons. They are planning something big in the name of 'The Sunken City'.[/sblock][/sblock]

At last, Gul thought, progress in tracking down some giants!

Though was curious about this one being a Cloud giant rather than a Fire giant, he had thought that the two groups didn't generally work together. A question for later, he realised, as he tapped into Mystra's blessing and wove an enchantment upon himself.

Blackness radiated out from him, darker than night, shielding those behind him from sight, though he was still able to see clearly.

OOC:

Start at JJ231 please.
Cast Darkness centred on self.

Note: Gul will cast Hellish Rebuke with a wizard slot as a reaction if he is hit by an attack within 60' (Dex Save DC 14 or 2d10 fire damage, save half)

Koldan's bolts strike true, interrupting the giantess' concentration on the orb. She suddenly seems to panic.

Gul creates magical darkness.

Uric shouts "HA, a giant... as in only one! We can take it, but I defer to your archery" he says back to Koldan as he races forward towards the nearest opponent, shouting as he goes...

OOC: Starting in JD231 as he likes to be out front anyway, [roll0] and then move 40ft (8 squares) forward to JD223, take the Dash action to move 20ft more (4 squares) to JD219. Then Action Surge to double attack the featured cultist or whatever they are :) [roll1], if he hits [roll=1d8+7[/roll]. Second [roll2], if he hits [roll=1d8+7[/roll].
