I cast Shield and got this:

So then I cast Wash and Spare The Drying.

You can cast Hold Person on the spirit of the cake, but all that means is that when I pick up the cake and eat it, the spirit gets left behind in its original position because it can't move to follow its cake. So now you have a disemcaked spirit who has every reason to be annoyed with you, and the Hold Person only lasts 1 minute ...

This is called having your cake and eating it.
