D&D 5E Relative popularity of the Xanathar's Subclasses

Leatherhead

Possibly a Idiot.
Yet more D&D Beyond datamining!

This time it's about the XGtE subclasses.

Of note: This data was "normalized" by only including characters who were created and then updated, which would presumibly indicate a continued intrest in the character instead of just goofing around to see what is possible.

Highlights include:
Hexblades being vastly more popular than anything else.
the Barbarian subclasses are among the least popular.

I don't see the storm sorcerer (which I'm currently playing) on that graph. Is that because it was a repeat from SCAG?

We also have a celestial warlock in the same party.

Poor Oath of Redemption, nobody likes you. (I don't, either. Not because it doesn't have any strong abilities, because it does, but it's just not a good concept.)

Nobody likes the Cavalier, either, though. (And I actually like that one. :()

Arcane Archer is surprisingly popular given the consensus of it being pretty underpowered and rather uninspired in its design.

I found it interesting that of the top 4 two are sorcerer subclasses, given that the Sorcerer is the LEAST popular class in the game, the two being warlock subclasses. Also interesting that two are Shadow themed, and two are religious/healer themed. Seems like a pattern.

I'm also surprised Horizon Walker is so low, I love that subclass, I think it seems like one of the most fun to play.

I knew Hexblade would do well, but not by that much, especially as it has the worst fluff of any subclass in the game, honestly. It's born really of its mechanics.

I like that my favourite is number 2 the Divine Soul, with my second favourite the Shadow Sorcerer at number 4.

Also note this is D&D beyond users, not wider D&D fandom, who really liked the Forge Cleric unlike the D&D Beyond users, so its important to gage the none beyond users as well.
