Relaxed Intensity
When I was 11 I started doing this shared writing exercise thing with some online friends. We each created characters and took turns writing short stories set in a shared setting. Shortly after I got involved in some online message board based freeform roleplay and some IRC games that were pretty freeform.

A couple years after when I was in the 7th grade I found out there were some 8th graders who played D&D. I set out to become friends mostly to try D&D.

12 years old.

Was GM in the D&D Club back in junior high. When the Satanic Panic was really gaining steam.

Not that the Satanic Panic made a big difference because I'm Jewish, had a developmentally disabled brother, was a nerd, and my mom was divorced; as far as everyone around me was concerned, I was shun-worthy anyway. Might as well join the D&D Club and play a game that all the parents had their panties in a bunch about because none of the parents in my neighborhood would let their kids play with me or my brother.
