In today’s Unearthed Arcana, we explore character options from the Dragonlance setting. This playtest document presents the kender race, the Lunar Magic sorcerer subclass, the Knight of Solamnia and Mage of High Sorcery backgrounds, and a collection of new feats, all for use in Dungeons & Dragons.

Kender have a (surprisingly magical) ability to pull things out of a bag, and a supernatural taunt feature. This magical ability appears to replace the older 'kleptomania' description -- "Unknown to most mortals, a magical phenomenon surrounds a kender. Spurred by their curiosity and love for trinkets, curios, and keepsakes, a kender’s pouches or pockets will be magically filled with these objects. No one knows where these objects come from, not even the kender. This has led many kender to be mislabeled as thieves when they fish these items out of their pockets."

Lunar Magic is a sorcerer subclass which draws power from the moon(s); there are notes for using it in Eberron.

Also included are feats such as Adepts of the Black, White, and Red Robes, and Knights of the Sword, Rose, and Crown.

This is not true. Here is the stats for the Heroes of the Lance:

Caramon, and Riverwind both had percentile strengths. Raistin had an average Constitution. And whoever said that Druids don't exist in Krynn really had no idea what they were talking about.
I kinda love this because of how badly optimised they all are. Alhana is a Str 9 fighter. Goldmoon is a cleric with a higher Charisma than Wisdom. Riverwind has a huge Str score but mostly (IIRC) uses a shortbow. And because this is before finesse weapons made Dex the uber combat stat, Tanis has good but not stratospheric Dex and Str but still manages to be very competent.

Mind you, Tika is listed as wearing plate armour but in her picture is wearing a low-cut blouse, because some cliches became cliches because they were true all the time. Tika and Alhana's 80s big hair is pretty hilarious though. Was there hairspray in Krynn?

One of my favorite characters had a high-stat of 13. IIRC he also had a 6. I rebuilt him once in 4e, and it felt very strange to put an 18 and an 8 in their place...

D&D has always muddled the difference between culture and biology, and the current era's attempt to separate the two is amusing, since it's often based on rather flimsy justification.

For example, in AD&D Elves are bad at opening locks. Why? "Elves don't use locks".

So as a culture, Elves don't believe in locking up anything? And despite the fact everyone else does, Elves are like "oh I can't be bothered to familiarize myself with such silly things as locking up dangerous magic items so the children can't get at them". Amusing.

Or you get things like Halflings throwing rocks good. Either because it's a popular pastime (culture) or they have good hand-eye coordination (biology)?

At the end of the day, it comes down to what the designer of the game thinks. If they think dwarves are greedy and love gems, then that's what they do. You can say it's a cultural thing, but it could just as easily be a divine curse, or Dwarves are just attracted to shiny things like some birds are.
We've just been informed that it can't be a divine curse anymore (not that that particular example ever was).

Tika's armor is specifically piecemeal, scavenged from bits she finds on the battlefield. Attached is how Larry Elmore drew it. The missing leg armor isn't great, but I've seen worse.

EDIT: I didn't say it was, just that it could be. But why couldn't it be, again?

Logic have rules. Sorry. Jump to Romani from Kender is wrong. It is not an opinion, is a fact.

Mod Note:
With regret, we must inform you that, no, it isn't about fact - it is about symbolism, which is about interpretation.

The question isn't whether it is fact, but whether a reasonable person could come to the conclusion. And, your repeated and vehement disissal of that means you are not treating your fellow posters as reasonable people.

Which means your time for discussion of this topic is at an end. In the future, leave room for the idea that you don't have a corner on absolute truth on a topic.

Every page just confirms the fact that D&D needs to invest and promote setting that match the current mechanics, current promotion, and current mix of old and new fans.

Dragonlance is nice and dandy. But it will come with issues and arguments.

Maybe it's time for Dragon... Drake.... Drakesword?

I've been saying that for a while, but I keep being told it's unnecessary, and those who don't like it apparently just need to suck it up.
