Back to the Athasspace/Doomspace thing: I found something interesting. I was looking to see if the Arcane had been brought into 5E yet or if they're just being replaced by the Mercane. I found a wiki about the Arcane in the Forgotten Realms Wiki and came across something that piqued my interest. I have no idea as to the validity of the information but it does get me thinking of a few things...
The Mercane and Arcane are the same, they just received a re-name sometime in 2e since "arcane" as a name might have caused confusion implying they had more to do with arcane magic than they actually do.

Actual defiling rules:
So. Doomspace = originally intended to be Dark Sun. Confirmed!

The "defiling" kills all normal vegetation and inflicts notable necrotic damage to creatures, within a 10-foot radius around the caster. Sounds about right.

Is there an image of the rest of the statblock? Probably, a spellcasting feature (or the new not-a-spell format) triggers the defiling?

Yeah, the seams are pretty obvious.
I'm guessing they originally planned it, realized that an incomplete cameo might annoy more than it would please, and are now using this as a trial balloon to gauge interest in a fuller update.

Relatedly, from the vibe I'm getting around here and elsewhere, it looks like, outside pricing, this Spelljammer update seems to be hitting all the right buttons. I'm not seeing much in the way of any real dislikes. Even the change in the cosmology has pretty well been accepted (probably as it's very simple to ret-con if you want to change it to something different or go back to the original).
