I didn't want to peek to risk the attack, but to put the spell at the edge of the door and on both sides of the curtaon. That is why he moved first, so he doesn't get caught in the area and both thugs have to save at least by entering this room...he didn't see their position

But I'm fine with keeping it there. Can I somehow block the doorway so they cannot pass into the main room?

If you wanted to make sure that both are caught in the effect, then Akos would need to move back 10 ft. and then pick one of the grid intersections by the curtained doorway.

So, by the bed then?

If you want Akos to try to block the door, he could try to move the chest that is sitting by the door or move one of the chairs there as a minor stumbling block. Neither of those option will completely block the doorway, however. Well, the chest could, but Akos would need to move it and make a Strength check to flip it up to block the door.

The thugs would have to push it out of the way.

You could have him try to move the long table, but he'll need to get the chairs out of the way first. Or he could try to stack the crates in front of the doorway, but they're as heavy as the chest and he'd have to move several of them.
