Yeah, taking a break from being online, especially social media, is good for one's mental health and perspective. I found that since noping out of Twitter, Faceback, etc., I'm much better at not taking the bait and impulsively posting on forums like this.I used to get pretty worked up over Edition Wars, back in the day. Then I took a vacation from the Internet and hung out on the beach for a while. When I got back, I logged back on to ENWorld and read some of the stuff I had posted before my vacation and...oof. I was embarrassed at my behavior. Wrote a whole big thing about it.
Reminds me of this meme used to troll bad "libertarians".I dont see a hot woman, so why would I waste my time on this?!
Ah, well, did you click the link to see the hot woman*?I dont see a hot woman, so why would I waste my time on this?!
There are definitely one or two common ones that are considered worse than the F word.Just saw a sponsored TikTok ad (for a show) where someone called another character "you f*&#@*g *&#@". What struck me as weird is that the second naughty word was censored but the f word wasn't. In both audio and captions. Is this what getting old and out of touch feels like? Because I've felt old and out of touch before, but this took it to new levels. All I can think of is the swearing scene in "A Christmas Story" where he goes to great lengths to describe how the F word is the ultimate bad word; foul beyond all other cusses. And here we are.

I know I have heard old songs on the radio and even on youtube where they kept all the swears in but bleeped out things like gun violence referencesSo, I'll grant that in most contexts, things like the n word are more controversial than f. But this wasn't the n word. And lots of the internet has language filters (I approve in most cases). But have you ever seen a scenario where the first was censored but not the latter? That's a first for me. I'm guess I'm going to have to get used to hearing people talk about that effing Scunthorpe problem.
