I see your point; however, this could also mean that most people suffer from ignorance, bias, and being uninformed.

Everyone suffers from those to one degree or another; you can't know everything about everything, even things that matter to you, and even becoming informed is not a panacea for bias.

There's a big difference from actively avoiding information that might contradict your understanding of thing, however; but there's also a big difference between doing that and avoiding discussion you think is most likely heavily biased and potentially deliberately misinformed itself. Your judgment on same can be faulty, of course, but like I said, no one has infinite amounts of time so you're going to do some of that no matter what.

I am not saying this is true but I see echo chambers in a lot of folks.

I actively try to avoid them but modern technology and customs make them difficult to avoid.

Frankly, they've always existed; its just easier to find and engage with than they once were. But look at the history of areas with limited news sources historically, and the only reason they weren't complete echo chambers in some cases was active decisions (often hazardous) to provide alternate news sources. But for most people that was a nonstarter because they had neither the time nor motivation to seek it out.

Now see, I have a big problem with people who "believe" that my identity isn't valid, that it should not be accepted, that my rights should be stripped away, and I should be forced to conform to the gender I was assigned at birth. This is not a "disagreement" I can share with someone and still be friends with them, because the root of our "disagreement" is their fundamental denial of my humanity.

I don't give a crap if you like different movies or games or music than I do. But if you are sexist, or racist, or homophobic, or transphobic, or any other interconnected bigotry that is not something we disagree on, that is you having a worldview shaped by hatred and that is fundamentally at odds human rights and no, we absolutely cannot still be friends.

That is what people are talking about when they say things like "If you disagree we can't be friends anymore".

It also applies to the strongly religious and actively hostile atheists. Fortunately, that's not all atheists but expecting people to continue to interact with people who think you're fundamentally insane and/or stupid, and says so (if indirectly) regularly is another case of being unreasonable.

Some world views are simply incompatible on a very fundamental level with other people's identities (or their own worldviews); its one reason for certain behaviors that I'd reference but border on political issues (which I may be already skating closer to than I should).

I will say that I have seen almost as much, if not more, anti-transgender hatred and bigotry spouted by overly aggressive atheists than those whose religion compels them to hate.

At least the religious have an excuse (a crappy one, but still). Bigoted atheists worship at the altar of science, except it appears the science that they don't agree with.

Wouldn't surprise me; the really aggressive atheists have an approach that says what they consider "rational" is the reality and anything else is self-delusion. They tend to thoroughly ignore the GIGO principal when assessing that.

No one can be as oblivious to their own blindspots as a self-professed rationalist.
