False. Hate can be ostracized, diminished, de-legitimized. You leave it unanswered, you lend it an air of legitimacy, and that is how it grows.

Well, back when it was still called Twitter, they actually enforced their rules, so bigots were both easily ostracized and ultimately restricted from the platform.

When somebody buys the platform and tells you he did it for you so you could go be horrible bigots again, there's not a lot you can do besides abandoning the platform and letting it fall to obscurity, like Livejournal or Myspace

Oh no, bots and trolls I block. The 4chan tryhard edgelords who "just ask questions" to get a rise out of people thrive off of oxygen, like a fire, and yeah, you deprive that crap of that oxygen and let it die out on its own.

For genuine hatred? Actual philosophical bigotry? No, you gotta squash that crap quickly and fully, before it metastasizes. See the "nazi bar" anecdote that's been floating some the internet for years. You cannot tolerate that nonsense for even a second.

Except his work is all largely one on one, or small groups. When you are interacting with those trolls online their whole goal ISN'T to get you to change your mind, it's to spread awareness of them and their horribleness to your audience, and at the same time show the people that support them that their views are more widespread because people are engaging with them.
