The whole POINT of 3.5 (that everyone is missing)

Re: Re: The whole POINT of 3.5 (that everyone is missing) Mostly a conversational quirk that two of my techie-oriented roommates share. "How much was the phone bill again?" "$BIGNUM." "And with our $20 credit?" "Still $BIGNUM." "Bogus."

The whole POINT of 3.5 (that everyone is missing)

The books aren't for you. Let me say that again, because it bears repeating. The books aren't for you. You're an enworld.org reader. The very fact that you're on this message board implies that you take a view of D&D "beyond the game", so to speak. If it were only about playing the game...

    Tactics class. Begin now.

Reverse variant on the classic Star Trek kidnapping. Thing is - you need a high-level wizard to set up a teleportation circle in an area you know you can get the party into. Something like a bottleneck in a hallway or dungeon. Have another arcane spellcaster with Weapon Focus: Ray, Far Shot...

Are the writers of WotC Dwarf lovers for 3e/3.5e?

Oh sure, dwarves get stat bonuses, and bonuses against certain races, and the totally broken stonecutting ability -- all worth at LEAST a +5 ECL... But to counteract it, they're still dwarves. Just stand on a stepladder and you're safe. There is no canonical example anywhere of a dwarf having a...

    Worst 3.5 Change

Psion sez... You sure? No page on paladins that I see in their photos. Table of Contents, Bards, Barbarians, Monk, More Monk, Actions in Combat, Special Attacks, Attacks, Combat, Movement, and Grapple Rules. Nothing on the paladins. If I missed it somewhere, do point out where WotC's verified...

    So, did you win?

Hey! We happen to be moving up to Woodbridge in the next few weeks (from Triangle, no big trek). The questions I hate tend to come in-game from folks who either are new to a system, or have had a very "numbers-based" gaming experience. Such as: "So, what level is everyone?" (said in-character...

Gaming catchphrases, expressions, and idioms--what are yours?

Playing Mage: the Ascension. The party consists of a college football star, a martial-arts drifter, an antique store owner, and the drifter's "girl Friday" (being the person still relatively new to gaming). Needless to say, the party finds themselves in trouble, being shot at by a man with a...

How do YOU say "mystic theurge"?

Whoops, I always get the Xvart mixed up with the Xiticix (RIFTS-universe bug aliens). Silly multiple-game DM syndrome. ~M.

How do YOU say "mystic theurge"?

Mystic theurge: wee-ZUHRD / CLAY-rick Dweomer: en-CHANT-mint Drow: 'twink' (drop a metal fork on a countertop) Cthulhu: skwid-ZIL-lah Bullette: ROK. (aren't those ammunition for French halflings?) Xvart: for-MEE-ehn Melee: egg-sped-ITCH-us ree-TREET Ixitxachitl: tee-tee-ca-ca huecuva: HECK-of-a...

    Two Questions

One, and this seems dog simple, but I just want to make sure... +1 flaming burst longsword. Normal damage = 1d8 +1 + 1d6(fire) On a critical hit - 2d8 + 2 + 1d6 (fire) +1d10 (fire)? Or is the d6 fire damage replaced by the d10? Two - regarding armor of fortification. Heavy fortification = a...

    D24 & D30....

The d3's we made were cylindrical, where the surface area of each flat side was equal to the surface area of the rounded edge (each "face" was 1/3 of the total surface area of the cylinder). Ends were 1 and 2, edge was 3. Basically, it was a coin that landed on its edge as often as it did on...

Giving Clothes a Magical Armour Bonus...Is it wrong?

Aha! So it does. Give it an Insight bonus to AC, then, and let it stack with everything! Perfectly legal!

    D24 & D30....

But did you have a d7? The ultimate sign of grognard geekiness! And then there are those of us who made d3s in wood shop...

Giving Clothes a Magical Armour Bonus...Is it wrong?

Perfectly legal, I'd say. Remember that the hardness and hit points of most clothes are 0/1. Masterwork clothes wouldn't add anything to that - unless your campaign has ripstop denim and/or kevlar fiber. In which case, I'd go ahead and say the clothes count as padded armor. Remember, that any...

    Weapon Finesse with longsword?

Easy solution - have the character get a longsword made of mithril. Carries it and uses it for the better part of a level, at the next level he gains a feat, he's eligible to grab Weapon Finesse (mithril longsword).

    Touch Spells Question

With things like Chill Touch, it basically just adds an additional effect to a touch attack, and you can make so many of them. I don't think the core rules have any other spells specifically that do "charges" of attacks.

    Touch Spells Question

For touch spells, (shocking grasp/vampiric touch/joy buzzer, etc) I'd thought it was clear that touching the target completed the spell. If you're holding the charge, for whatever reason, then the spell can potentially be disrupted by someone thwacking you with a dead cat or whatnot...

    Possible broken class/PrC combination

Being that it's INSANELY easy to qualify for, the Forsaker class is horribly powerful, especially given that the only requirement to maintain it is the denial of all magic and magical items, magical healing, etc. However - does this cover psionics? Would a Psion/Forsaker class not be...

    Stats for Historic D&D Invididuals

We've seen the stats for Mordenkainen in the ELH - what about the other members of the Circle of Eight? Other than brief mentions on the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, have they been statted out anywhere? Also - other than those folks, what historical characters from the Greyhawk setting have been...

    Whirlwind Great Cleave?

My thought on it is that yes, it can work - but it may not turn out how the player wants. Whirlwind Attack + Great Cleave - say Joe Bob Fighter has 4 attacks per round. In front of him is a pit fiend. On either side of Bob are 2 goblins. Now, with Whirlwind attack, Bob could make one attack...
