    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Size replaced by Handedness?

Auraseer, I'm not trying to be snippy, but I don't see any point in debating what the rules are at this point, until we have the books it's kind of silly. Proficiencies, feats, etc. all are based on what a weapon "is" under the rules, and it gets really complicated when the same physical...

Surprise when the bad guys are faking it

I'd favor either spot, or maybe a knowledge check if somebody has a relevant knowledge skill (like a knowledge check to tell what kind of animal something is). Sense motive doesn't seem right. One problem - this is a surprise round, partial actions only. Standing up from prone is a...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Size replaced by Handedness?

Stalker, I understand that. My concern is, does the gnome handed a non-prof penalty too? If the gnome has bastard sword proficiency, can it use the longsword one handed? Is a large bastard sword equivelant to a medium two-handed sword? If so, what's a large longsword equivelant to, a medium...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Size replaced by Handedness?

They didn't just double the weapon list, they octupled it. Now we have diminuative through colossal greatswords, battleaxes, etc. I can't tell yet if this is going to end up being painful or helpful. It looks like the new sizing rules clear up some issues, but at this point I can't figure out...

How does Rapid Shot apply to Shurikens?

Only the first shuriken gets sneak attack damage. Rapid shot works just like iterative attacks w/ shuriken - you get to throw 3 more. So, at 1st you get to throw 6; the 1st and 4th get sneak attack damage.

    Feinting for someone else

Man, that's quick response time! I see these skills differently. Diplomacy is about lying and deception and anything else that'll change someone's mind in a give-and-take discussion, while bluff is for quickly trying to fool somebody. That, IMO, is why bluff gives synergy bonuses to...

    Feinting for someone else

Yeah, feinting only allows the bluffer to attack w/o dex bonus to the bluffee. But, I have no problem with allowing taunt or a similar effect as a bluff check. Bluff allows the character to make another act as desired for up to a round, which IMO would allow a taunt. I would put a modifier...

Bag of Rats Cheese ... No More!!!

It doesn't have to be rats or snails. One of my players talked about taking a bunch of houseflies wrapped up in a cloth, and just dropping the cloth. He was going to hold it somewhat like a balloon so it opened when dropped. (We had a really bad fly infestation that summer, and he actually...

Bag of Rats Cheese ... No More!!!

The reason I've never seen the bag of rats actually used is that 100% of the DM's I've seen or talked to houseruled cleave and WWA to eliminate the possibility. I'm glad I don't have to houserule anymore. Also, bag of rats is just an example of the problems these rules had. There are lots of...

DR vs. spells that do "physical" damage

Do you need exotic weapon profiency to attack with a +2 admantium floor?

D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Threat ranges no longer stack!

I have to admit, the crit stacking never bothered me. It turned the character into an all or nothing gambler. Against many things, crit master was soooooo weak, and having so much invested in maxing the crits increased the problem. I know that, theoretically, the critmaster can get some...

    Adamantine Defending Sword.

    I think that's the "A" answer.

Fly spell and anitmagic field(help me beat a friggin dead horse yet again!!!!)

Well, there's nothing to dispel b/c at the time you cast Dispel Magic, the fly spell is suppressed. However, I believe the dispel magic doesn't effect the suppressed effect b/c it is stopped by the AMF from reaching the (previously flying) wizard. Per the SRD: So, the Dispel can't...

What does +1 Level of existing class, really mean for Mages, Sorcerors and Clerics ?

I can't recall any general rules stating that, say, a Contemplative or Alienist is solely a divine or arcane caster. So, if you meet the Contemplative prereqs w/arcane, you can take arcane. The fact that a PrC is in a divine book doesn't make it a "divine only" PrC. The description of the...

Why is Ice Storm a higher level spell than Fireball?

Besides no save, which automatically makes it a cool spell, don't forget it's a column - 40' high I think. If your DM is somewhat realistic w/ flying creatures, and places them above and below each other instead of just treating them as horizontal w/ height, you can knock around a lot of...

    New Rant Posted

Sorry to butt in to your discussion, but this is the main problem I have w/ D&D alignment. Good is pretty well defined under the rules - you can pretty much follow the "do unto others" path and get an answer. Evil is this big morass. It includes insanity, selfishness, pathology, misguided...

Gamers who want to date gamers

Rant response - Sorry to hear about your bad experiences. That sounds awful. I, on the other hand, like female gamers. I don't find that female gamers are any more or less likely than males to have temper tantrums, be difficult, refuse to get along, or try to manipulate the DM. IMO, we men...

[3.5E] In The Works - Changes to the Titan

Admittedly, that is a much more interesting, tactical battle than most I've seen in 3E, but I still don't like the new DR rules. Sunder is now the must-have BBEG feat. If your BBEG is half-way intelligent and depends on combat at all, that should be it's primary attack, esp. w/ spell...

Official responses to 1 min/level Buff spells

Without getting into whether I like the change or not, overall IMO it does add to the choices. 1hr/lvl meant that was the just about the only 2nd level spell a wizard or sorcerer cast in every campaign I've ever been in, which meant there were no choices re 2nd level spells, just a choice of...

    Poor sword and shield?

Sword and board is about the only thing I've seen stand up to high-level mages, a shield w/ reflection does wonders.
