Bag of Rats Cheese ... No More!!!

you don't even need some bucked of snails, a 1st level cohort with a wand of Summon Montser III summoning 1d4+1 monsters and ordering them to move through your thretened area was enugh.

That's nothing to do with WWA, though - that's just Combat Reflexes and Great Cleave.

It doesn't have to be rats or snails. One of my players talked about taking a bunch of houseflies wrapped up in a cloth, and just dropping the cloth. He was going to hold it somewhat like a balloon so it opened when dropped. (We had a really bad fly infestation that summer, and he actually tried it with 3 flies in a paper towel. It worked, to my complete annoyance).

Dropping an item is a free action. So, he argued that he could drop the flies as a free action, use whirlwind attack, and bust loose with the cleaves. Harder to hit fine creatures, though.

LokiDR, you are now the exception that proves the rule. The one DM I know (if this counts as knowing) who wouldn't houserule this away. But I do note you weren't actually confronted by this in a game.:)

For my best effort I got around 800 MPH with a hasted, diving something or other with a lot of psionic feats... May have been using something clearly against the intent of the rules like a psionic half celestial (winged) cheata sprinting, though...

Sprint!!! Of course. *runs off to play with more numbers pointlessly*

Hey, it isn't 100%. :D

The last character in one of my games that took WWA almost never got to use it in any sort of useful way. The same was true of cleave. Any time he was getting a lot of attacks, it was against enemies that weren't enough of a threat to justify the feats.

Spellcaster are normally much more dangerous, especially in 3e with 20 buffs. Or just plain old save-or-die spells. WWA combo just seems to pale in compareson. Any anything the PCs do, I can do with more minions. :D

Wow

This is the first time I have come across the bag o' rats/bucket o' snails or whatever tactic. (I'm not really in to smackdowns) I have to say this is THE CHEESIEST tactic I have ever seen to date in D&D. Certainly not my cup of tea. It's hard for me to believe someone would try it in the first place. Again, wow.

Oh, come on. This was just a silly oversight in the original rules and few DMs would have seriouslly allowed it. you don't even need some bucked of snails, a 1st level cohort with a wand of Summon Montser III summoning 1d4+1 monsters and ordering them to move through your thretened area was enugh.

Once again, a tactic often talked about, but apparently never used.

So far as anyone can tell, no one has ever actually used the tactic in a game. Which makes all the moaning and whining about it (as well as the many house rules designed to obviate it) just that must pointless wailing and gnashing of teeth for no actual gain.

If a players tried this in my game, I'd tell him to eat it. But dang it, WWA and cleave was a good combo in my opinion. It was possible for me to really wack a lot of the bad guys. Personally, I don't think WWA is all that great by itself.

That is an interesting point. I have not had a problem the tatic, so I haven't changed it. It isn't against the concept I have for my game, so I haven't banned it.

I never said it had been used, I merely stated it is hard for me to believe someone would actually try it let alone come up with the idea.

I hope it's never used.
