Why don't they just tie one of the pc's hands behind his back, and give him a wet tissue for a weapon, and be done with it? It seems if there is any chance of a pc accomplishing something it will get nerfed. Now this example is just silliness but in general that appears to be the design teams philiosphy. "Let's beef up the monsters and pull the rug out from under the pc's. YEAH!!"
