[GM Wanted][Offline][Los Angeles] Looking for a Pathfinder GM

I can run D&D 5e, but prefer OSR type stuff like Labyrinth Lord or Kevin Crawford's style of games. In particular though, I'd really like to find a group willing to play Red Markets, a zombie game about economic scarcity: http://redmarketsrpg.com/ I fell in love with it after listening to some...

[GM Wanted][Offline][Los Angeles] Looking for a Pathfinder GM

You guys are in the perfect location for me, and I'm looking to GM, but I can't run Pathfinder. : /

Gamers Wanted: Los Angeles Based GM in Search of Players, Host

Hi all. I'm a long time gamer who has mostly run games for friends, but I'd like to find a dedicated squad of players I can DM for and maybe even occasionally play for. To be clear though, I'm mostly a GM/DM these days and that's where the majority of my fun is. I currently live in Inglewood...

Are There Any Games Designed for Play-by-Post or Email?

I'm wondering if there has every been a roleplaying game (or even a strategy game) specifically designed to be played over the Internet in a play-by-post or play-by-email fashion. I'm sure it would be a super niche product, I'm just wondering if it exists anywhere.

D&D 5E [Dark Sun] How Would YOU Handle Defiling in 5e?

I'm starting a new play-by-post campaign set in Athas, and I'm not sure how to handle arcane defiling given the 5e rules. Rather than put forward my own house rules, I thought I'd solicit ideas from you fine folks. I know I want it to be mechanically powerful, since there are significant social...

    [5e] Dark Sun Backgrounds

I'll make this pretty later with bold lettering, etc. later on when I'm not posting from my phone. A note on the "Literacy" skill; players are not assumed to be literate Unless you're proficient in this skill, you can't read. Nobles are trained in Literacy instead of History, and any character...

    [5e] Dark Sun Backgrounds

Continuing the home brew binge for my upcoming 5e Dark Sun game, here's my best attempt at some classic Athasian backgrounds. Critiques welcome. Templar Templars are the hand-picked enforcers of the sorcerer-king's will in the city-states. Called nganga in Gulg, praetors in Balic, or simply...

    [5e] Dark Sun Wild Talents

Urgent feedback requested! I'm about to start recruiting players for a high-intrigue game set in Dark Sun. Dark Sun's my favorite setting, but with no real information for running it with 5e rules (which I think I vastly prefer to 4e), I've had to homebrew. A lot. Hoo-boy. Since I'm homebrewing...

D&D 5E What is the price for a red dragon's egg?

"I will pay you 500 gold coins to take that red dragon egg AS FAR AWAY FROM MY SHOP AS POSSIBLE."

D&D 5E Life Without "the Gods" or Playing D&D without the DDG.

I may have been overly sensitive just now. At least we can agree Dark Sun rocks, right? My point remains, though, that you can remove clerics and paladins from a setting and the game world will still function fine.

D&D 5E Life Without "the Gods" or Playing D&D without the DDG.

They're exactly the same thing in 4e, they're just not "class: cleric" or "class: paladin." The SKs still granted their magical powers to templars; the powers were just arcane as opposed to divine. Warlocks made good templars foe this reason, with the various sorcerer-kings standing in for...

D&D 5E Life Without "the Gods" or Playing D&D without the DDG.

Huh? Of course there would still be Sorcerer-Kings and Templars. I don't get it, were those roles traditionally filled by paladins and clerics in earlier editions? Because in 4e, Templars were either warlocks or some other class, with "templar" understood to be a social/societal role...

D&D 5E Life Without "the Gods" or Playing D&D without the DDG.

I intend to do a 5e Dark Sun game soon. Gods are necessarily absent in the setting. My solution? Paladins are Clerics are not allowed. Problem solved. Just avoid some explicitly-divine magic items, and gods are completely gone from your campaign. Everything else is just window dressing.

D&D 5E "My X is underpowered compared to Y." So?

I have to say, the underlying question of the original post is kind of mean-spirited. If somebody thinks a particular class or race is underpowered, can't they discuss it on an Internet forum without being ridiculed? I can't get behind the thinking that "balance" is a bad idea, a toxic and...

    D&D 5E Player's Handbook Official Errata

On the contrary, cantrip scrolls are listed in the Dungeon Master's guide. Their rarity is Common, actually. Since it seems germane to this conversation, I'd like to post a link to a rules question I asked a few months back regarding whether or not a monk's unarmed strikes are weapon attacks...

    D&D 5E Player's Handbook Official Errata

Actually I was interested in going Champion and getting an expanded crit range on my Flurry of Blows attacks. Either way, though... yeah. This puts a crimp on multi-classing monks.

    D&D 5E Player's Handbook Official Errata

Another concern: re-defining unarmed strikes as specifically definitely 100% not weapon attacks might have some serious repercussions for Monks. Specifically, it messes up the dwarven Fighter/Monk character I wanted to make pretty bad.

    D&D 5E Player's Handbook Official Errata

Looks like a major nerf to Sorcerers and Evokers, as well as to Scorching Ray specifically (previously THE damage spell to take). I guess they don't like magic-users blasting stuff, huh? Yeah, I have to admit I'm disappointed to see any errata at all. I was a 4e fanboy but that always irked...

New to Los Angeles, Seeking a Group for 5e

Just posting to say I'm still looking for a game in the LA/North Hollywood/Burbank kind of area. Meltdown Comics is indeed a magical wonderland of comedy and nerdy goodness. I seriously love that place, but it appears the 5e tables are full.

D&D 5E Necromancer Archetypes For PCs

Would you be comfortable with a player whose PC is (mechanically) a Wizard Necromancer, but in-character uses these same "arcane" rituals? Maybe a dwarven character who only raises the bodies of his ancestors?
