I may have been overly sensitive just now. At least we can agree Dark Sun rocks, right? My point remains, though, that you can remove clerics and paladins from a setting and the game world will still function fine.

They're exactly the same thing in 4e, they're just not "class: cleric" or "class: paladin." The SKs still granted their magical powers to templars; the powers were just arcane as opposed to divine. Warlocks made good templars foe this reason, with the various sorcerer-kings standing in for...

Huh? Of course there would still be Sorcerer-Kings and Templars. I don't get it, were those roles traditionally filled by paladins and clerics in earlier editions? Because in 4e, Templars were either warlocks or some other class, with "templar" understood to be a social/societal role...

I intend to do a 5e Dark Sun game soon. Gods are necessarily absent in the setting. My solution? Paladins are Clerics are not allowed. Problem solved. Just avoid some explicitly-divine magic items, and gods are completely gone from your campaign. Everything else is just window dressing.

Actually I was interested in going Champion and getting an expanded crit range on my Flurry of Blows attacks. Either way, though... yeah. This puts a crimp on multi-classing monks.

Another concern: re-defining unarmed strikes as specifically definitely 100% not weapon attacks might have some serious repercussions for Monks. Specifically, it messes up the dwarven Fighter/Monk character I wanted to make pretty bad.

Looks like a major nerf to Sorcerers and Evokers, as well as to Scorching Ray specifically (previously THE damage spell to take). I guess they don't like magic-users blasting stuff, huh? Yeah, I have to admit I'm disappointed to see any errata at all. I was a 4e fanboy but that always irked...

Just posting to say I'm still looking for a game in the LA/North Hollywood/Burbank kind of area. Meltdown Comics is indeed a magical wonderland of comedy and nerdy goodness. I seriously love that place, but it appears the 5e tables are full.

Would you be comfortable with a player whose PC is (mechanically) a Wizard Necromancer, but in-character uses these same "arcane" rituals? Maybe a dwarven character who only raises the bodies of his ancestors?
