D&D 5E 20th level Sorcerer vs the world

The downside with using Glyph this way is that--if I'm reading the spell correctly--you need to cast it at the level of the spell you're storing in it, which means you need two slots of that level: one for the Glyph spell, one for the spell you're storing in it. That seems to mean you can't store anything cast at higher level than 7th in it.

Yes... That's why I ruled out simply Gating the meteor-happy spellcaster right over a big X painted on the floor, though there might be somewhere in the rule a solution to cast 2 9th-level spells on the same day. Creating a scroll would make it prohibitively expensive if it was allowed, the rules specifies that the triggered spell must be cast as part of the casting, so a Simulacrum can't stand ready to cast the spell...

(BTW, when DM'ing normally, I'd probably veto half of the 10 methods to locate the kille (or use them as opportunity for a side quest), but I'd be inclined to allow the glyph of warding trick... if only because I'd feel no qualm about using it against the players.

I'll admit I'd kinda skimmed your post (sorry) and missed that you were ruling out 8th/9th-level spells. Sorry. OTOH, it's good to see that I'm at least not coming up with an idiosyncratically incorrect reading, here, which isn't outside my range.

Using a Glyph of Warding to teleport the PCs somewhere? I ... might do that. Glyph to Sim at least one PC ... I've kinda nerfed Siim in my games, and one of the nerfs is that the target must be willing. It wouldn't be entirely fair if I had NPCs sim them.

You could actually get a Glyph for an 8th-level spell by casting the Glyph at level 9. From the spell:

"At higher levels: . . . If you create a spell glyph, you can store any spell of up to the same level as the slot you used for the glyph of warding." (my underlining)

Which basically turns him into a slow-motion wizard, as far as prep goes, and leaves him without a 9th-level slot. That seems to me to be playing against the sorcerer's strengths and to the wizard's, which seems ... quixotic.
I don't know if I'm remembering this correctly, but isn't wish not spammable due to exhaustion levels and some hard limit put in?

On a related note I haven't followed this thread for a bit so I don't know the current developments of what's wrong with the Sorcerer champion build. Anything new there?

Wish has "stress", with severe consequences, but only if you use it for something other than replicating an 8th level spell, without any need to fulfill its requirements.

Mainly that he claims to cast Meteor Swarm as is 9th level spell because "obviously" he hasn't cast Mind Blank, and yet claims to be under constant Mind Blank. And the practice of taking 48 sequential short rests in a row to create a hoard of spell slots is questionable at best.

This, along with the sorcerer having the simulacra of his choice, seem pretty clearly to be DM Fiat. I'd argue worse DM Fiat (more abusive) than using Wish to bring the Sorcerer to the place of the wizard's choosing.

I also don't see any class feature that allows him to automatically destroy magical traps--something he's claimed he can do. A little help, here? Just wanna see what he's misreading. :)

Also, other characters can’t use Gate on him or Wishes that target him because “DM Fiat”, but he can have a Simulcrum of a Drow Matron Mother because that isn’t “DM Fiat”.

Also, his Stealth roll works until he is detected, so he can use Trance of Order and Guidance to get a great Stealth roll and continue to use that roll even if he wasn’t within eyeline or earshot of his target when he Stealthed (and multiple Stealth rolls aren’t a thing).

Targetting someone with subtle spells doesn’t trigger an initiative roll, even if the target can’t be surprised.

The claim he made was that with Skill Empowerment, Trance of Order and Guidance, his Investigation was so high he would be able to detect and avoid all traps (and also disarm them).
