Subtle Dominate Person doesn't have noticeable effect.

I don't always agree with @Oofta but I don't think I've ever seen him be dishonest.

More relevantly, the person being dominated knows they're being dominated. The people around the person being dominated knows the person is acting strangely. So, even though they didn't notice that the caster cast the spell, there are effects they can notice.

I've already assumed that they were not actually Oni as per the monster manual. I also feel like that it's not really necessary information to know for the more pertinent questions I have.

You mean copy-paste? It was maybe not clear whether he was thinking the victim knew the caster's location or the caster knew the victim's (I bet he has it right in his head, though).

You seem to mean that anyone who is copy-pasting rules text is stealing, and thereby being dishonest, which I'm not going to respond to, because it can't be what you actually mean.
