[3.5] Archers nerfed! Meleers/Spellcasters rejoice!

Nope! It just means you'll NEVER and I mean NEVER see magic arrows anymore. Makes no sense, and guts the non-munched out archers.

Thus again solving the GMW 50 arrows at a time problem.

I can vouch for that! When I first started DMing, I didn't allow them to stack, I didn't know any better regarding the rules.. nobody ever bought magic arrows. I kept using that house rule though, it just made more sense to me. The only benefits would be specialty arrows and the DR, but that's about it.

DR in 3.5e is a bit different, if I recall correctly ... ;)

Exactly. Based on everything we know, you need a wider range of materials to penetrate DR (since magic won't penetrate cold iron, or silver, etc.)

Assuming that it's the arrow's material and/or enhancement that penetrates DR (as it is currently under 3.0), a capable archer is going to have to carry a wide range of ammunition to be effective -- which makes going Arcane Archer useful, because he can carry a smaller selection of arrows and still overcome a wide range of DR.

Not at all. He's still got Divine Favor going for his archery and that should more than make up for the difference in power. In fact, since smaller differences are more significant when the overall numbers are smaller, your cleric archer will be more powerful than he was before relative to other archers.

Relative to monsters, OTOH, is another ball of wax entirely.

Rats!

What about my poor munchkin cleric archer? He's ruined!

Hm... that's a good point, why bother with magic arrows now? The only benefits I can think of is adding +Xd6 effects or special effects, since +X bonuses won't be stacking.

I guess that would make sense, given a bow with a total enhancement of +X costs the same as the equivalent sword (under 3.0 rules). Anyway, later!

Because a +5 bow of obliteration won't penetrate DR X/magic, but a +1 arrow will.

I like this change, but I do need something to overcome DR. Of course now that you need magic holy silver arrows to overcome DR for fiends, I do not forsee a large number of people carry them around.
