[3.5] Archers nerfed! Meleers/Spellcasters rejoice!

It doesn't really make sense to have awesome uber bows anyway - it's the arrows that matter. I mean, I'm sure an archer is going to want to have a nicely made bow - something strong, durable and fast - but again, the arrows are what actually HIT the creatures in question. Perhaps we will just no longer see really cool bows and arrows will be where it's at. That's my impression, anyway, and I don't really see a problem with that.

It's cheaper to get some +3 arrows to go with your +1 Flaming Shocking bow and it is to get a +3 Flaming Shocking Bow.

In my opinion, this gives an edge to Arcane Archers. They can pay for a heavily magic'd bow and get their arrows magic for free.

Other archer types will have to pay for a bow and arrows, or more likely just the bow and whatever the less efficient 3.5 version of GMW gives them.

I've seen Arrows of Spell Storing used to good effect.

By the rules, you can't have arrows of spell storing. Spell storing only works on weapons, not ammunition. Plus, it doesn't state that spell storing bestows its power to its ammunition like other special qualities do.

+5 flameing burst ghost touch holy bow with +1 spell storing keen distance disruption arrows of wounding R0xx0R5!

Right, and I wouldn't allow it on a launcher either. I thought you could put it on ammo, though. Oh well, time to read up on the rules.

::sigh::

As much as I thought the stacking of bow and arrow enhancement bonuses was incredibly cheesy, I think the new rules will lead to some really, really stupid moments as you have archers carrying around hundreds upon hundreds of arrows of different types so they can actually hurt things.

This is pretty much the same gripe I have with the new DR system, except having archers that expend their magical ammunition makes things even worse.

It's stupid to have the fighter wandering around with 10 different magic swords strapped to his person in order to ensure that he can hurt things.

It's even dumber to have the archer toting around like four different quivers - one for his silver arrows, one for his magic arrows, one for his adamantine arrows, and one with all kinds of bizarre arrows just in case he runs into that one monster with DR 50/green boxing gloves.

If they sensibly change the Quiver of Ehlonna though, there won't be any "four quiver" silliness. Archers will carry them all in their single magic quiver and automatically get whichever arrow is needed.

Damage reduction amounts have been lowered so you don't need that particular material to hurt them - it'll just help. I sincerely doubt that a 5/silver creature will be immune to your regular longsword. Even a 10/silver creature will still get beat up by a buff fighter or barbarian attacking them, just a little slower.
