No surprises, there... Andy (or was it Monte?) had already said that 3e Rangers could use the staff two-handed with Ambi & TWF, without penalties for being a double weapon...

Glad to hear it. If anyone remembers the old 1930s Robin Hood movie, there is a wonderful staff fight between Robin and Little John.

Nice to see that the new rules will make this easier to do. (For that matter, there is a good staff vs. swords battle in the Wheel of Time series.)

way back when...2 years or so ago...they did an article on the WotC site about weapons. the quarterstaff was the first one highlighted.

I would hope decision for rules in the revision are based on game balance, playability, and what makes sense, more so than what a particular designer personally likes and wants to see more of.

I would have preferred seeing this kind of response:

"Yup. It makes sense, is balanced, and most players like the concept of a monk and ranger with a quarterstaff."
