(3.5E) Aw, crap...

You keep saying that, Olive, and I have one word for you, "Counters" :) They're the inexpensive alternative that serve just as well as minis if the funds are low or the deal that a minis' company is out of line, which, IMO, a collectible game is for us common gamers that are not collecting armies or playing such games. Hell. You can even make them youself, as I often do to create the proper size mounts for minis that stand. *shrug*

of course. we ised a golf range token, a badge and a plastic bull from a bottle of wine to great effect last game. i just don't like the idea of collectibles for minis.

although it has to be said if it means that the common orcs etc are cheaper unpacked at the flgs, then i'm all for collectible.

i don't have pics of any of mine to hand... maybe i'll tsake some and post. the new on is a half sleeve japanese dragon, stretching onto my chest, its mostly balck and red, with gold back scales and a blue under belly.

We'd use dice for most larger numbered groups. There's always an abundance of them. :)

I think we'll find the same thing as with Chainmail (1) in that we'll see the early figures ridiculously reduced in price in short order. And if not, check out some of the larger local game shops. Most figs for grunts and whatnot are usually cheap or quickly discounted as the new flavor of the day comes along.

I'm as cheap a mini collector as exists, I'd imagine... :D

i need to get a car so i can go to the big military simulations sales they have a couple of times a year. i wonder if my girlfriend's brother will lend it me his next time?

Sounds fairly extensive! :)

On another note, if the new game is a collectible game all one need do is watch for all of the vein slappers to over saturate themselves with what they deem are useless figs. You'll be able to pick them up on the cheap from the people who are searching for the elusive Pimpernel... :D

From what I (re-)read, I understood that the assumption was already there, and that the flavor text will be changed to show clearer how to use the minis that were already implied.

And as pointed out before, i can´t see how they could change the rules to be more mini-based.

never used minis before 3e, now i can't imagine how i ever played without them.

I hate using them persoally, JMO but they slow the game way down.

I still need a squiggle board for big fights though, it helps keep stuff in order

Well, I'm not overlly concerned as allready mentioned for a couple reasons.

1. My group already uses mini's, or dice for the peon NPC/Monsters.

2. With out doing d&d 4.0, I don't think they can change things much, just clarifiy things.

As for the "I never have never will people" cool, enjoy your game and don't stress it. They have already said all the changes will be put in to the SRD, so for the little tweeks to classes and such just pick them up there.

I know this is gonna sound trollish, but what's wrong with miniatures? I've never had any problem with them at all. As a matter of fact, I've found it a lot more imaginitive to play with miniatures than otherwise. When everyone can clearly see the positions of the combatants I can focus my descriptions on enemy appearance, actions, etc. and not how close or far away someone is and what direction they're in. Just my opinion, though. I guess using minis slows down very small combats, though. *shrug*

That said, I really agree that I don't like the sound of this. "Focusing more on minis" sounds to me like it translates into "Making more complex miniatures rules"

If they start adding things like facing then I'm out for 3.5E.
