Verily, this game is awesome. It has to be, it has Sindr in it :D Don't you know that capital-C-Chaotic tieflings make any game awesome? :D

I kid, I kid. About Sindr, that is, not about the game being awesome. Cage-Rattler definitely has the "feel" of Sigil down pat for me and I find myself checking for updates way too frequently :p

Ambrus:[sblock] In this case, I was using a sidebar in In the Cage as a reference. I figured their ability would put them in some sort of limbo between the Astral and the City. This particular reave will have to "re-phase" somewhere else in Sigil within the next six rounds.[/sblock]
Fair enough. I don't mind minor changes in the setting (and as you pointed out, there's a basis for it in this case) as long as it's an informed decision, that there's some thought put into it and that's it remains consistent throughout the campaign.

So what about István's readied skirmish attack against the reave? And is the reave's ability spell-like and so provoke Attacks of Opportunity from Cang and István?[/sblock]

Actually, I have to admit that I've been quite impressed with Sindr's spell-usage. Causing the reave to drop all four of its weapons with one spell was teh awesome! And blinding him was just added frosting. :D

Consequently I had a lot of fun snatching away his weapons and dancing around him. If I could just have figured out a way to get the reave to clobber itself as well as its cohort, it would have made my week. :]

I'll second that. I'll even go on to say that I'm impressed with the few extra metagame touches he's included. For instance, I found CG's summary of the NPCs' morale each round at the bottom of each of his posts very helpful. Knowing how wounded and confident an enemy seems helps give us the players an impression of how well we're doing in the combat. Helps avoid TPKs due to false impressions. Kudos. :)

My primary concern in any game I run is that people are having fun (myself included). Ambrus and Zurai, glad you've been enjoying things so far. :)

Scurry:, did you have a new character concept you wanted to try out, or were you thinking of adding to your idea of a warlock character?

==============================

End of Combat Breakdown

Boarding House Siege: Huzzah, you've gone through your first battle practically unscathed -- largely due to completely shutting down the combat potential of the reave, in no small part thanks to Sindr's spells and Istvan's hideyness. Once the reave (literally) lost his maces, I thought to myself, "Well, old bean, we're quite effectively boned now, aren't we?" ;)

I did forget one aspect of the VP / WP rule: the fact that, if a character takes Wound Point damage, they are fatigued and possibly stunned. I'll make sure to folloow through with that in the future.

Ambrus:[sblock] I ruled the reave's Fade ability as Supernatural -- although, honestly, I don't have a whole lot of experience converting critters from 2nd to 3.x edition, so I'm open to the possibility that i'd be better as Spell-Like. "Fading" still takes one full round, so Istvan and Cang were able to take their Readied actions to attack it. Istvan would've had another chance to attack next round as well, since he has higher initiative, but I glossed over that part since the reave would have DR 10 / Magic while fading and Istvan does a maximum damage of 9 with 1d4-1 + 1d6.[/sblock]

Experience Awards for Heinrich, Istvan, Pierce, and Sindr:[sblock]625 xp each.[/sblock]

Dinah's Kip: Not a combat encounter per se, but it definitely had the potential to turn violent. Dire Lemming, you did a good job of having Anthony talk and beguile his way out of a tricky situation. Although, I have to say..."Hampton?" That'd be like naming your pet bull "Porterhouse". :D

Experience Award for Anthony:[sblock]750 xp for you, sir.[/sblock]

[sblock=Cage-Rattler]So what was the result of István's readied skirmish attack? It occurred before the reave started to fade so it would still have been susceptible to his 1d4-1 +1d6 damage. A lucky strike might have knocked it out before it started to fade. It had taken a fair amount of damage already, even with its armor's DR. As is, it seems you didn't even bother rolling it. :\

Cang didn't have an action readied BTW.

In case you don't know, all Planescape monsters have been indexed and/or converted to 3.5 stats over on the WotC forums. Here's a link Save yourself some trouble and take a look. The reave's stats can be found on page 3. And incidentally, it's fade ability is listed as Supernatural.

Also, doesn't István get any additional xp for having single-handedly destroyed an imp earlier?[/sblock]

[sblock=Cage-Rattler]Shouldn't Sindr get a little more experience than the others in the boarding house? He's only ECL 4 while the others are ECL 5. He used the LA Buyoff. I wouldn't mention it except that using the buyoff option you offered placed him 'behind' on XP and he'll need that 1-level-less XP boost to catch up and make the buyoff useful. I realize it makes it a little harder on you :o since I DM a mixed-ECL group myself in real life.[/sblock]

Ambrus:[sblock] As I understood it, the "Fade" sbility caused it to become semi-corporeal from the moment it was triggered, making its DR 10 / Magic when Istvan's readied action took place. Although there was a chance that Istvan could land a critical hit (and therefore bypass the DR), the reave hadn't taken any Wound Point damage yet, and a maximum damage roll wouldn't have been enough to drop him.

That said, you're right; I didn't roll for the attack. I was being lazy, and I'll try not to do that in the future.

Thanks for the link, by the way; I'll check the Reave conversion on the WoTC forums and see how it compares to my off-the-cuff version.

And grrr, you're right; Istvan does get additional XP for killing the first imp. (For some reason, I thought I already gave that out). 500 additional for Istvan. :) [/sblock]

Zurai:[sblock] Blah! You darn kids and your lower character levels! ;) Sindr actually gets 700XP, in this case.[/sblock]

Unfortunately, I'm afraid you've been misreading the section on Readied Actions. "The [readied] action occurs just before the action that triggers it. If the triggered action is part of another character’s activities, you interrupt the other character." Emphasis mine.

So in this instance, István's final attack took place before the reave triggered its fade ability, before it gained the additional DR. The entire point of readying actions is often to try to stop an opponent from taking an undesirable action, such as casting a spell to teleport away.

It might be relevant if the glow-in-the-dark reeve appears nearby, is still blind and somehow raises an alarm that the party could respond to. I imagine that the innkeeper has got the local neighborhood awake and looking around since she ran out the door yelling for the Harmonium. The reave might still get caught if we're lucky.[/sblock]

Just to toss in my adulations with the rest, this is definitely one of my favorite games going on. It's got action, it's got style, it's got organization, nothing's missing :)
