I think it is fine (other than the fact that Pit Fiends are Devils and Mariliths are Demons who classically war with one another). But it is fine! But, then again, I love watching players make new characters.

By challenge rating? Good Lord, No! They'd be obliterated, especially if you played the Pit Fiends sensibly.

Even one pit fiend is deadly as-is against a group of 15th levels.

Now, if you tire of the campaign, and the players want to go out with a bang, then have the Pit fiends raid a good-aligned town, and the townsfolk need time to escape, and have the heroes make a HEROIC last stand that will go out with a bang!

4 Pit Fiends could probably take a level 20 party in 3.5, let alone a level 15.

If you are using average wealth guidelines in the DMG, then they will be toast.

2 Pit Fiends and 6 mariliths will arguably be worse!

Players are bad. They throw dice at DMs. They eat all the Doritos before you even get any then rub the ornage cheese-powder/grease all over your books. They rarely chip in for pizza. They drink all the Mountain Dew, promising to bring some next session, but always have an excuse for why they didn't bring any... as they go to the fridge and get more of your Mountain Dew! They use your bathroom and never lift up the seat. They spill drinks on all of your rare first edition game books. They draw on your battlemat with the dry erase markers that never come off. They "borrow" your books and you never see them again. They hit on your little sister. They compare themselves to snowflakes. They only like character concepts that are outrageously overpowered. They cheat on all their die rolls. They complain about your adventures but don't say how to improve them. They complain about you using the same CD for ambient music, but never ofer to bring/buy a new CD.

If your players are like this, use 4 Pit Fiends. If not, try and find a challenge more in line with their levels and abilities.

I wish this were shorter...it would make a great sig. :D

Four 15th level pcs vs ONE pit fiend is a very hard battle that the pcs have a good chance to die... Four 15 level pcs VS ONE marilith is a ok battles (in 3.0 would be very diferent....)
