48 Minutes from the Championship Game

Well, I'm sitting here cruising ENWorld trying to keep my nerves in check. For those of you who don't know me, I coach high school football in Illinois among other things. My team has a semi-final match-up in 4A today against Newton. If we win we go on to play in the Championship at Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois.

I often come to ENW right before games to read some story hours. It does a couple of things for me:

1st it keeps me from pacing around like a caged lion; and

2nd it gives me a chance to do some vicarious gaming through others' campaigns. My own campaign is always on hiatus during football season. If you played high school football - you know why.

Newton has speed, we have size and strength. A classic match-up of Beauty and the Beast.

The winner gets Chicago Catholic powerhouse Addison Driscoll more than likely on the Friday after Turkeyday.

Our fans set up tailgating at 9 AM this morning in the parking lots and I had to just come back here in my office to calm down a little. You know what they say about us football coaches: Football Coaches are men smart enough to understand the game, and dumb enough to think its important! The atmosphere here is electric though...

I just wanted to rant a little and thank ENWorld for helping calm an old coach down every week before games. It's been a great season no matter what comes.

Time to go tape some ankles.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks guys.

We laid it on the line today and came up a little short. We drove down with two minutes ledt to kick a field goal to send the game into overtime. Illinois OT is much like the college version except each team gets a shot from the 10-yard line. We stopped them and they were forced to settle for a field goal. We ran for 3 yards on 1st down. The next play we fumbled - season over.

Bad News:
Eagles 9
Bulldogs 6

Good News:
Let's play some D&D.

Pogre,

Bummer! Sorry to hear about the loss...but there is always next year. I am sure your gaming group is (secretly) happy :p!
