4e Battle of Good vs. Evil: Ice Archon & Co. vs. Eye Of Flame & Co.

OOC: Yes, Charlie would have rolled 15-5, still making the save.

Good Guys:
Charlie (chuul, SW): 38/109hp, bloodied, shadow drain
Gertruda (grick alpha, leader, SW): 96/116hp, injured, Fort 20
Peter (spectral panther): 25/46, injured

Round 61:

Charlie moves to 85N65E, then charges to 85N35E. 2+17+1, miss. Charlie fails his save vs. shadow drain (5).

Gertuda attacks TL (yay! no darkness!). 11+13, hit!. Ton takes 12 damage, is grabbed and bleeds for 5 ongoing (save ends). Gertruda makes her save vs. acid (another 17).

Peter comes out of hiding at 50N15E and charges Ton Loc, shadow pouncing his Funky Cold Medina. 3+14+2+1, missed! Crap!

Ton Loc slashes Peter with his tail, 6+8, miss.

Bad Guys:
Ton Loc (young black dragon, leader, AP, SW): 263/280hp, injured
Kip (kobold archer): 11/23hp, bloodied
J'klict (drow wand mage, AP, SW): 45/45hp, full
Lamont Cranston (shadow demon, SW): 62/72hp, injured

Ton Loc fails to recharge the cloud or breath weapon (2). He uses his frightful presence, Gertruda: 20+5 vs. Will; Peter: 2+5 vs. Will. Gertruda is stunned until the end of Ton Loc's next turn and has -2 penalty to attack rolls (save ends). As a move action Ton Loc tries to escape the grapple, 2+7 fails unless it is automatic while Gertruda is stunned.

Kip fires an arrow at Gertruda, 10+9 misses.

J'klict recharges the icy ray (4). He moves away from Charlie, provoking an OA. If he can use the combat teleport against Charlie on the OA, he will (natural 20+13 vs Will, moving Charlie due east). J'klict ends up at 90n0e and then fires an icy ray at Charlie, 12+13 vs ref, 24 cold damage plus charlie is slowed one round.

Lamont charges to 55n65e and claws at Gertruda, 16+13+2+1 vs. Ref, 13 damage and shadown drain (ongoing necrotic 5, save ends yada yada).

OOC: Stunned creatures don't drop anything in 4e, so I presume Getruda holds on. Ton Loc forgot his save to stop the bleeding. Immediate actions cannot be taken on your turn, so Charlie gets an OA without being teleported. Getruda is large, so Lamont charges to 55N70E.

OA is 5+17, miss.

Good Guys:
Charlie (chuul): 36/109hp, bloodied, shadow drain, slow, +2 defenses
Gertruda (grick alpha, leader, SW): 78/116hp, injured, Fort 20, stunned, shaken, shadow drain
Peter (spectral panther): 25/46, injured

Round 62:

Charlie takes his second wind. He fails his save vs. shadow drain (7).

Gertuda does nothing and likes it. She misses her save vs. shadow drain (12-5).

Peter shadow pounces Ton Loc. 19+14+2 for CA (grabbed, not flanking) +2 for pinning grip, hit. 20 damage. Only 14 more like that, and the dragon will be dead.

OOC: Sorry. Ton Loc had failed his save (7). Also, I think Gertruda gets a save vs. the -2 atk penalty she has. Also, yeah, Ton Loc has a LOT of hit points.

Bad Guys:
Ton Loc (young black dragon, leader, AP, SW): 238/280hp, injured, bleeding
Kip (kobold archer): 11/23hp, bloodied
J'klict (drow wand mage, AP, SW): 45/45hp, full
Lamont Cranston (shadow demon, SW): 62/72hp, injured

Ton Loc recharges the cloud and breath weapon (6). He creates another cloud of darkness. As a move action Ton Loc tries to escape the grapple, 6+7. He fails the save vs. bleeding (6, same roll as the d6!).

Kip moves to 70n110e and fires an arrow at Charlie, 5+9 vs ac+2 misses.

J'klict recharges the icy ray (5). He fires an icy ray at Charlie, 18+13 vs ref+2, 18 cold damage plus charlie is slowed one more round.

Lamont claws at Gertruda, 19+13+2-5 (does he get CA in this situation?) vs. Ref, 12 damage and shadown drain (ongoing necrotic 5, save ends yada yada).

OOC: I don't think Gertruda gets a save until the aftereffect kicks in. Let's give Lamont the flanking bonus, although didn't the 3e FAQ say that invisible creatures cannot flank? I know I've seen lots of debates on that subject. TL gets +5 on his saves, so he made his first bleeding save and should have 243 hp.

Good Guys:
Charlie (chuul): 13/109hp, bloodied, slow
Gertruda (grick alpha, leader, SW): 61/116hp, injured, Fort 20, shaken, shadow drain, blind
Peter (spectral panther): 25/46, injured, blind

Round 62:

Charlie double moves into the water to 100N35E-5Z. He makes his save vs. shadow drain (13).

Gertuda squeezes for 12 damage. She misses her save vs. shadow drain (12-5, same as last round). She misses her save vs. shaking (6).

Peter shadow pounces Ton Loc. 5+14+2+2-5, miss.

OOC: I would say then that Ton Loc doesn't get flanking but Lamont does.

Bad Guys:
Ton Loc (young black dragon, leader, AP, SW): 231/280hp, injured
Kip (kobold archer): 11/23hp, bloodied
J'klict (drow wand mage, AP, SW): 45/45hp, full
Lamont Cranston (shadow demon, SW): 62/72hp, injured

Ton Loc recharges the cloud (4). He sustains the cloud of darkness. As a move action Ton Loc tries to escape the grapple, 17+7. He tries a bite on Gertruda, 16+10+2 for 4 damage (ignored) and ongoing 5 acid (save ends).

OOC: Do you want to allow readying? That would really screw up our consistent ordering. But, just in case I can preroll if it helps. If no readying is allowed, Kip and J'klict just move and do nothing.

Kip moves to 45n110e. He readies to shoot an arrow at anything emerging from the water, 9+9 misses.

J'klict recharges the icy ray (6). He moves to 60n0e and readies to shoot an icy ray at anything emerging from the water, 3+13 vs. Ref misses.

Lamont claws at Gertruda, 12+13+2-5 vs. Ref, 11 damage and shadow drain (ongoing necrotic 5, save ends, yada yada).

OOC: I read something that implies that readying an action turns it into an immediate reaction. If we play it that way, it works very elegantly - initiative does not need to be changed. 17+7= success in escaping the grapple.

Good Guys:
Charlie (chuul): 13/109hp, bloodied
Gertruda (grick alpha, leader, SW): 40/116hp, bloodied, Fort 20, shadow drain, acid
Peter (spectral panther): 25/46, injured

Round 63: (Kip & TL reset SW on round 65)

Charlie climbs out of the water as a move action, triggering the readied actions, then charges to 65N5E. 12+17+1, hit. 7 damage. Only one immediate action per round, so if J'klict sticks with the readied action, he cannot teleport Charlie away.

Gertuda shifts northeast to 60N65E and attacks Lamont. 16+13-2, hit. 8/2 = 4 damage. Lamont is grabbed and bleeding. Getruda misses her save vs. shadow drain (8-5). She makes her save vs. shaking (18). She misses her save vs. acid (1).

Peter moves to 50N70E, triggering an OA from TL. He shadow pounces Lamont. 18+14+2+2, hit. 18/2 = 9 damage.

OOC: Can insubstantial creatures be grappled?

OOC2: Btw, I have no dice with me, so I'm using d20srd.org dice bag. If the rolls seem artificial, it's because they are. :)

The OA is a 13+10+2 vs. AC 24 for 6 damage and 5 ongoing acid damage. I assume he can use a bite as the OA. If it has to be a claw, the attack would miss.

Bad Guys:
Ton Loc (young black dragon, leader, AP, SW): 231/280hp, injured
Kip (kobold archer): 11/23hp, bloodied
J'klict (drow wand mage, AP, SW): 38/45hp, injured
Lamont Cranston (shadow demon, SW): 49/72hp, injured, bleeding, grabbed

Ton Loc recharges the cloud (6). He moves to 60n55e and sustains the cloud of darkness. He tries another bite on Gertruda, 13+10+2 for 8 damage (ignored) and ongoing 5 acid (save ends).

Kip moves to 20n110e and fires an arrow at Charlie, 1+whatever misses badly.

J'klict fails to recharge the icy ray (3). He moves to 90n05e provoking an OA and wand blasts Charlie, 17+13 vs Ref for 15 damage. Charlie is down and out for the count pending his final OA.

Lamont claws at Gertruda, 14+13-5 vs. Ref, 10 damage and shadow drain (ongoing necrotic 5, save ends, yada yada). He tries to break out of the grapple, 19+9 (str or dex check, right?).

OOC: If Lamont can heal, he can be grappled. Dex is allowed, 19+9= success in escaping the grapple. Bite is allowed for the OA. The darkness does not move with TL, so Lamont, Gertruda, Peter and can still see each other, but they cannot see TL. Lamont forgot to take 5 damage from bleeding, then attempt a save.

Charlie's OA is 13+17, hit. J'klict takes 7 and is immobilized, so he stays at 60N0E.

Good Guys:
Gertruda (grick alpha, leader, SW): 20/116hp, bloodied, Fort 20, shadow drain
Peter (spectral panther): 14/46, bloodied

Round 64: (Kip & TL reset SW on round 65)

J'klict is no longer immobilized.

Gertuda shifts east to 60N70E and attacks Lamont. 1+13+2+2, miss. Getruda misses her save vs. shadow drain (11-5). She makes her save vs. acid (10).

Peter shadow pounces Lamont. 9+14+2 for flanking, hit. 18/2 = 9 damage. Peter makes his save vs. acid (15).

Lamont had saved vs. bleeding (11). I applied the 5 points missed previously.

Bad Guys:
Ton Loc (young black dragon, leader, AP): 280/280hp, full, +2 on defenses
Kip (kobold archer): 11/23hp, bloodied
J'klict (drow wand mage, AP, SW): 32/45hp, injured
Lamont Cranston (shadow demon, SW): 35/72hp, injured

Ton Loc recharges the cloud (6, new roll). He sustains the cloud of darkness and then takes a second wind to heal himself up to full!

Kip fires an arrow at Peter, 19+9 for 6 damage.

J'klict recharges the icy ray (6, even newer roll). He moves to 90n30e and shoots an icy ray at Gertruda, 2+13 vs. Ref, amazingly misses the slow Grick.

Lamont claws at Gertruda, 10+13 vs. Ref, 13 damage and shadow drain (ongoing necrotic 5, save ends, yada yada).
