D&D 4E 4E Cosmology & Yougoloths

First Post
The new cosmology confirms The Abyss and The Nine Hells but doesn't look like it has anywhere for the yougoloths. I assume that with the clarification (simplification) of demon and devil roles that they will be dropped completely from 4E. The only mention of them so far is that Ice Devils are some form of yugoloth/demon (so even that isn't clear exactly what they are).

The only one I can see existing is Charon as a boatman on the River Styx in the Shadowfell (which would be cool).

Any thoughts?

I'm still not keen on the name Yugoloth, as it reminds me of those cheap Eastern European cars from the 80's that only came in red or gold and were called "The Yugo" (Yugoslavia).

The Daemons/Yugoloths were ganged up on by the Demons and Devils, who then, in traditional high school gym tradition, began to pick teams from the leftovers...

I don't think they're survive as an independent classification of monsters either. The reference to the "yugoloth/demon" is highly suggestive that they'll be rolled up with demons. Or they're being broken up and scattered across the cosmology, wherever they seem to fit in individually (such as Charon boating a river deep in the Shadowfell).

Always make sure that you pick the strongest fiends for your team, that way you can gang up on the weaker ones.

And remember, the 4th Ed cosmology is about violence, exclusion, and degradation.

I think that the devils will be more than simply just the fallen angels. Some of the "devils" will be other outsiders roped into service. I think that the yugoloths will be the pool from which those outsiders come from. So floating out in astral space there will probably be some yugoloths.

If it'll help you, "jugo" (also pronounced "yugo", with basically the same meaning -- "jug" means the South in Croatian, Serbian, and probably a bunch of other Slavic languages -- Yugoslavia means "Land of the South Slavs") is a southern, humid wind blowing in the Adriatic. It brings clouds and rain, as well as causing headaches, bad mood, and depression.

I'd say that fits the yugoloth theme quite well :)

It's a very inexpensive car that you can find spare parts (which are also cheap) for almost anywhere.

It also has a cult following ;)

Whether or not they make it into a book, I think they will continue to exist.

From what I understand about the new Devils, they are Fallen. They had to have some place to fall and it existed long before they slipped.

Evil was around before they fell and was probably the secret reason why they fell.

Yugoloths are probably still that secret group pulling strings...the linchpins or root of all trouble.

I think defining the differences between them and Devils is going to be hard....probably harder in 4e than it was in previous versions....

I think they will be best as boogymen in the closet
