I have a sincere question for 4E fans: are you excited enough about the 13th Age news so far to consider a possible alternarive to Next? It seems like the game is targeting that audience (though I could be wrong) and I have to wonder if people who really like 4E see it as their Pathfinder.

If so, what does the mean for Next (will they have to walk a norrow bsnd between Pathfinder, OSR and 13th Age)?

Hmmm, I could stick with my DDI supported, fully compatible 4E OR I could go to a unsupported product that might not even do what 4E can do.

Nope, waiting to see if 5E does what 4E could do without castrating the balance 4E had plus more. If it can't I will stick with 4E.

A lot of people assumed 13th Age would be a 4e clone (in spirit, if not carbon-copy) but the more I hear about it, the less it sounds like 4e at all.

If anything, it seems to be going for a definite retro grid-less feel.

What they mention of the design doesn't make me think that. They aren't sticking close enough to 4e for that analogy - ditching the grid, especially, leads me to feel their design isn't focused on the same kind of tactical play as 4e.

No. Nothing I've read about it sounds remotely similar to 4E, despite the involvement of a 4E creator.

The toolbox approach and the "your game will be completely different from anyone else's game" has pretty much sold me on NOT playing the game at all.

For better or for worse, I don't think 4e will have "a Pathfinder".

Even if it did, this 13th age thing doesn't sound like it would be that.

Yeah, looking at Morrus' recent post about it, most of my assumptions seem wrong.

You're wrong. Check out the interview on the front page of the site. It's 2.75, with additions from story games.
