I have decided to be nice to the 4E haters in this forum, because I have come to the conclusion that they are somewhat lonely, and probably a little sad. :(

I draw my evidence from the fact that they come here at all.

For example, I abhor basketball. I never visit basketball websites, or post vitriol on the various teams' messageboards with stuff like, "Why the Lakers are ruining my favorite game!" or whatever. Since I do not like something, I do not participate in online discussions about it.

On the other hand, I love Radiohead. So I participate in discussions on their messageboards. Its great. And, oddly, I never see posts like "how In Rainbows (their new album) means Radiohead sucks now!" or anything like that. As if, folks who don't like Radiohead have better things to do with their time.

Yet here is a site for 4E, and haters post hate. And doom and gloom. Why?

Why not just post happy stuff on forums for stuff they do like, like 3E or 2E or 1E or whatever, rather than taking the time to come to a 4E forum and whine?

Must be lonely... ;)

Please notice the "humor" disclaimer.

Beneath is an honest confusion as to why some folks spend so much time trying to talk the rest of us out of trying out a new edition.

See my post here for a non-humor angle:

So if a simliar post talking about 4e lovers/defenders/etc... was started and it had the "humor" disclaimed no one would complain right?

Oh wait, that's no what happens. People get up in arms if you call 'em 4e apologists and warnings are handed out. Right right... I gotcha. Putting humor there makes it all cool.

There's no such thing as fourth edition yet, so nobody can hate it. In fact, we all want to love and embrace it. (There may be people who prefer playing out of print games on principle, but I've never met any of them.)

However "the spirit of D&D" means vastly different things to different people, so some people are finding the game they love is moving in a direction they don't like.

Some of those people consider this unfortunate state of affairs to be a big deal, and like discussing it on D&D message boards.

What if Radiohead decided to go in a new direction musically with their new album? Like if they decided to experiment with ska or hip hop or metal or something. And a lot of the fans loved this new direction but equally a lot of them hated it.

And they set aside a forum on the messageboard specifically to discuss the new album. Result? Massive argument.

Well, until the haters leave. Which is what's happening here, slowly.
