[4e] Monster Mash! 4e MvM tournament (Closed)

Yeah, beholder been blinded 5 rounds in a row - about 1/200 to fail 5 saves in a row with a +2 save bonus. :)

He's gonna need some pretty fierce rolls to survive at this point.

I don't think covaithe has missed a single recharge or saving throw with that white dragon...

Next time, high level, low monster count...

well one of my guys has rolled 20 twice with 3 rolls.
unfortunately he was a minion, and he has been killed and dumped in the river.
the angel on the other hand rolled a max of 11 with 5 rolls.
the Descetran is the only one with a normal spread of numbers.
my luck seems fairly normal really.

Is it too early to say that small bands with a wide variety of powers are doing really well? although I still see my fight as a toss up.

Bill is a minion NPC I'm my home game, I wonder if I should work his fate into that plot?

Isn't that because they resemble PC parties? What can a single, strong monster do if it is stunned, or suffers another nasty status effect? And it's got no luck and fails a couple of saves?

I think I'm starting to feel like there's a pattern that monsters that can impose nasty conditions at range and/or repeatedly -- blinded, dazed, stunned, dominated -- are doing really well.

I agree with the nasty conditions being a winner, especially when the nasty conditions hit most of the time. For example, Oni's (stupid freaking) lich has totally locked down my angel for the fight. He gotten two rounds of actions on his own, and is now laying prone, weaponless, and is a drooling pawn of the lich. Add to that repeatedly dazing my other two monsters, and I'm not doing too well.

I think the thing about the nasty conditions is that they make the battles much more dependant on a smaller number of die-rolls - the saves (or not) make or break it. In that sense, I am wary of DMing that kind of enemy unless the party has some resources to deal with it (such as granting saves).

Nastier still are conditions that get worse as you fail saves. My other potential team had an attack that, when hit, forces you to save - if you fail twice, you are petrified. Nasty nasty.

Definitely learned something.

Congrats ata on your team win! Team Bill-n-Bob has officially conceded (in the form of Bill self immolating in a ball of burning eyeballs).
