[4e] Monster Mash! 4e MvM tournament (Closed)

I expected leveled-down monsters to be overpowered, too. For example, compare an immolith leveled down to 10 with a gibbering mouther. Both are level 10 controllers, with similar HP, and to-hit. Th immolith's defenses are slightly better. I think the immolith's powers are slightly better, but the mouther has area attacks, and we've seen how nasty dazing can be, so maybe that one's a tossup. However, the immolith's aura and resists are much better, hands down.

On the other hand, the hexer has shown that blinding is effective at every level, so...

In other news, it's the weekend, and I'm gonna be fairly busy, though not completely out of touch.

The Immolith is another really nasty monster. I really didn't look forward to that filler team with one in you had prepared... the undead synergy is pretty scary.
I'd be curious to see how my party would fare vs the dragon too... I think I'd have the advantage in the tunnels, but aside from that, I can't really figure it out...

I thought that about the Lich... the lower-levelled monsters still have the really cool abilities (like dominate as a minor), while my level 9 controller requires a standard.

I'm not really sure that it's so much an issue of level as it is that, despite 4e's focus on balance, some monsters are just plain flat better. The hexer is a good example. I was strongly considering using it myself just because of how good its abilities are. But the Baelnorn is much the same way, I'm not sure you'll find many monsters even of its original level that are quite that good.

How is the situation in the other fights? I couldn't really get a grasp of it by looking at the status summary... Predictions?

I'll say...

Atanatotatos (obviously)
CaBaNa (I think this is the biggest hill to climb, but the map favors him.)
Evilhalfling (This is the team that scares me the most actually.)
Myself

Those are my best guesses as well, except for me, if the dragon keeps rolling the way it has been I'm toast.

I've been amazed at the crazy amount of information being passed back and forth. This is a serious learning experience!

Some of the most surprising things have been in status effects. That and I expected high level monsters to be impervious, and they seem to just be very difficult.

Great job on the participants parts for stretching the creative boundary, and finding great situational rule clarifications.

Great job to covaithe for the idea!

Can't wait to either watch or play next round.

I'm not sure which way the other matches will go, but I'm pretty sure Oni's got me beat. You've gone and put together a devastating team, Oni - minor action domination, self-recharging teleportation, and other nasty status effects from the lich, plus extreme mobility and weakness attacks with the wraiths, plus regen 5 on all of them to top it off. I also think the wraiths are tougher in relation to their new level than the originals are for their level, because you don't take insubstantial into account when giving them more hp. Essentially, they get twice as many "level up" hp as a normal monster would - don't underestimate those low hp totals, people! ;)

I might've had a better chance had I realized that from the start and used a different strategy, but if I win now I'll be stupefied, haha.

I think Evil v. renau1g is still too close to call, but I agree with the other predictions. Though CaBaNa still has a long, careful fight ahead of him.
