Terrin AC:15* HP:24/24 HD:3/3 PP:13 SSdc13 4/4 2/2 CD:2/2 Slp:1/1

(Round 1)
Seeing the ambush is underway before the wagon has had a chance to advance farther up the road and knowing the success of his group's mission depends on achieving a swift victory in this first encounter, Terrin shifts his staff to his shield hand and retrieves a javelin from his robes, launching it at one of the cultists in the wagon, hoping to support his comrades however he can.

The crossbow bolts would have doomed most people to an untimely death but, instead the bolts seemed do almost no damage. The one that hit him in the abdomen, actually hit his belt buckle and, beyond denting his favorite belt, did very little to hurt him. The second bolt that stuck into his shoulder had actually barely missed, causing no more than a small scratch and getting stuck in his cotton shirt.

Merrick, completely unphased by the danger that passed by him, ran up to the cultist driver and kicked him in the chest to send him tumbling down the cliff.

Okay. So, my plan was to shove the dude off the cliff but it's a saving throw now instead of an opposed check? So my rage gives me zero advantage? sigh

Despite this, having your enemy teetering on the edge of a cliff is too good to pass up.

DC: 13 to resist being pushed back 5 feet.

Oh, also, I used my healing as a bonus action. I ended up using two. Sadly, the second roll was all I needed.

Copper AC:14 HP:24/24 HD:3/3 PP:14 CloudJ:2/2

Seeing that the driver is tangled up with Merrick, and not trying to move the ox-cart out of the ambush, gives the goliath a brief relief. Which was quickly replaced with frustration as most of the enemy forces scrambled into cover. Taking a steady aim at one of the Mercenaries still out in the open, Copper lets another arrow fly.

OOC: Oof dodging and cover, Copper's main weaknesses with ranged combat. Once a few more melee people show up down there it won't matter so much, but till then I gotta put that sneak attack damage where it can be the most damaging.
Bonus Action to Aim and give advantage.
Attacking M2
Aim Action Sneak attack Shortbow: 2D20.HIGH(1)+5 = [14, 9]+5 = 19
3D6+3 = [1, 6, 2]+3 = 12
That will also grant Vex against m2, so I automatically have advantage next attack against him.

TEAM LAKE: KAYAK 2 - SUBJECT: SHADE-9 MISSION: Ride the Rapids – Round Two

Water sprayed up over his arms as the kayak shot forward like an arrow loosed from a bowstring, the current clawing at the hull, while their paddles, working in tandem, countered and cut the surging water like well honed blades.

Shade-9 noted a subtle vibration in his chassis, a flutter of subroutines flickering out of sequence like a revelation. Optics opening, he quickly scanned the river ahead, identifying the multiple hazards - swift current in front of them, large rocks to the right, sharp rocks and shallows to the left- and over it all the glint of sunlight refracting off wave crest, like something alive perching and ready, active and wild.

[System Flag: pulse irregularity detected-elevation in decision feedback rate. Heuristic re-prioritization triggered? #Is this excitement?]

As the strange routines flashed in his system core Shade-9's dug his paddle deep into to the water, striking harder than intended and causing the kayak to turn, the bow swinging left. Action unbound by conscious directive, a rush of something unfamiliar within him.

"Multiple hazards identified" he quickly recovered acknowledging the need to inform his companion now the turn had been initiated. Aywin, sitting so close might have noted a lilt to the Warforge's tone
"I recommend we follow Loklafd's trajectory, avoiding the large rocks to right or crossing the center current" he continued with eager anticipation, perhaps even excitement

"Maintain vigilance of left bank hazards. [Subject: Loklafd] will need to clear current position or we may be forced into the shallows" he explained pointing out the telltale rippling of the water over stones

OOC: Proposed trajectory L-13 → N-12 → S-13 directly following Loklafd alongside the sharp rocks and grounding hazard

going to roll dice now - let me know if you want to try something different :)
Dexterity check: 1D20+2 = [20]+2 = 22

NB I had considered going M-15 → S-13 which would take us alongside the big rock then a dash to ride across the centre current, that would be high risk but have the benefit of speed :) Shade-9 seems to be unlocking his thrillseeker protocols!

Team Lake

Eager to be out of the way when Aywin and Shade-9's kayak came through the swift current, Loklafd, surrounded in hazards as he was, spun is paddle around to fend off the sharp rocks and push himself away from the approaching shallows. But the river surged as he did so, and it lifted him momentarily up and tipped him toward the rocks, which raked his arm and the side of his kayak as he spun around and then was forcibly dropped with a grind on top of the the next group of rocks, which were just under the surface and his kayak bottomed out with a crash.

OOC: Well, I was GOING to move him out of the way, but then Coyote Dice-Roller was MEAN. It didn't roll higher than a TWO on THREE checks for Loklafd, and then CRITTED him when I rolled attacks for the sharp rocks. Poor guy took 18 and his Kayak took 19 (including Grounding). And here I was worried that we'd just happily succeed all the way through without any drama!

As their kayak crested the current's edge, Shade-9 shifted his weight to keep equilibrium as Aywin swung out and against the hazards with his paddle.

Loklafd ahead had not been so lucky, a sudden surge in the river tipped him against the rocks and his kayak came stuck, caught on a rocky snag.

Adjusting course mid-course to give the elder northman space Shade-9 thrust his paddle deep and dashed forward along his trajectory

Team Ambush

Terrin's javelin gained so much momentum as it hurled down from on high that it seriously injured the cultist as the scoundrel hurried from the wagon to the cover of the trees. The second javelin buried itself among the tree's roots as the cultist attempted to return fire. He and his companion, the other cultist behind the wagon, both chanted and sent bolts of fire up into the trees where Terrin and Urgan were sheltering. Neither came even close to striking a person, though, and both even failed to catch the trees on fire. The spring rains and proximity to the river's waterfall kept them damp, and only small wisps of smoke showed where the flames had scorched through the leaves.

Down below, Merrick rushed toward the caravan driver and kicked him square in the chest as the man stood from ducking behind an ox, to face Merrick as he'd come around the animal's head. The driver stumbled back, and down the steep hill to land with a thud on the next level of road. He lay there for a moment, groaning.

Copper shot the second front guard mercenary, who stumbled, wounded, but he spotted who'd shot him, and threw javelins back at him while stumbling up the steep hill. Both javelins came up short, about 10ft downhill from Copper's position.

Corrah didn't like that her big buddy was getting javelined at, so she sent two arrows from her shortbow down into the guy, finishing him off.

OOC: Yeah, there's more levels to the switchback. They've been driving up it for half an hour! The Driver still is alive (he fell 20ft for 6 bludgeoning), and still has a turn, but I'll take it later. I don't think that anyone will be able to take advantage of the fact that he's prone down a level, but who knows? Merc2 moved to W6 & missed Copper with 2 Javelins. Then I remembered that I hadn't rolled for Corrah in R1! I usually do NPCs last, but I threw her R1 in here. I'll do her R2 at the end of the round.
Cultists
C1 Firebolt vs Terrin: 1D20+4 = [2]+4 = 6
C2 Firebolt vs Urgan: 1D20+4 = [2]+4 = 6
Pfft.
Driver vs Merrick's shove:
dc13 STR Save: 1D20+2 = [8]+2 = 10
Haw!
My wife rolled real dice for Copper. She'd hit, until I realized that it was all long range and at disadvantage. She hit with Corrah's arrows, though, killing M2 after Copper bloodied him.

TEAM LAKE - Bjorn

The river was moving swiftly, and Bjorn saw they were headed straight for some big rocks. Bill was distracted by the fall - he was soaked and barely holding on as it was. Seeing their danger, the dwarf called upon the earth to empower his paddle and struck out at the rocks to his left, attempting to thread the needle so to speak, downstream. However, although empowered, the paddle felt unfamiliar to Bjorn, and alas it slide harmlessly off the slick surface.

OOC:
Perception check for Bill (DC 12): 1D20+3 = [8]+3 = 11

Bill has water in his eyes!

Cast shillelagh on the paddle and strike at the big rocks to their right, trying to push by them.
Attack with paddle: 1D20+5 = [2]+5 = 7

Failed!
