(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Lorent finds a good position where Orc mercenary and the cultist hid from the barrage from above, but hiding from the position he originally was. Now, much lower, he moves a bit more to get better angle and shoots at the hidden orc.

The bolt hits and pushes the orc, hopefully breaking his cover, but at that distance, Lorent cannot see if it actually penetrated the armor.

OOC: In other words, I have no idea if advantage is cancelled by disadvantage :) it is either 2 or 12 damage

Move: G37

Shamal was staggered by the blow of the mercenary, and as he we off-balance, his first swing connected weakly. The wounded mercenary, however, could not react in time as the second shamshir pierced his armor and finished him off.

Shamal is unhappy with his sword work, but quickly moves to engage the rest of the enemies.

OOC:
This is my Round 2 action. Merc2 is dead, right?
1D20+4 = [6]+4 = 10

1D20+4 = [17]+4 = 21
(Heroic Inspiration)
1D6+2 = [1]+2 = 3

Ugh.
1D20+4 = [19]+4 = 23

Damage: 1D6+2 = [1]+2 = 3

6 damage to Merc1

Move to AB 9

Team Ambush

Saphirion dove out of a tree and flew at the orc mercenary's head, all wings, claws, and hisses. The orc stepped back, waving his arms at the flying cat, and Lorent, who had jogged down toward where the road switched back toward the north, downhill. He sent a bolt of eldritch energy that knocked the orc back a few steps, but the orc rolled his shoulder with the blast, lessening its impact.

Shamal finished his opponent, cutting down the most forward mercenary with his shamshir. He chided himself for shoddy work, in spite of his success and headed downhill, skirting along the ledge so that he could see where the driver had fallen.

The driver rolled over from lying on his back on the road one level down from where he had been. He looked up at Merrick, cursing, and waved his hands while speaking words of power in the language of dragons. Not a simple wagoner, then - he was a cultist. Behind Merrick, a ghostly dragon-claw appeared, floating in the air, and it slammed into Merrick's back like a heavy fist.

Then the driver hustled away up the road. He was far away from everyone, but the road wound in a way that put him in sight of everyone who was further up the switchback.

OOC: Merrick took 4 Force from the driver's (who's a Cult Fanatic) spiritual weapon. He's in the open, though! Saphirion took 10 from OrcMerc's Axe. I won't be posting rolls - my wife is enjoying rolling real dice for my bad guys! Just @Kobold Stew Urgan & @MetaVoid Torhak to go to roll the round!

Urgan and the Ambuscade.

The ambush had started early, and it appears Urgan has grossly misunderstood what they were doing. He's embarrassed -- he has set up an illusory barricade, but the attack started and it seems the wagon won't ever reach the bend. He is far, far behind, and catching up is going to take minute at least. He sees where Scamp is, by the illusory barricade, and he hurries down the road at his top speed. He feels foolish. There is nothing he is going to be able to contribute to this combat.

OOC: Move (to D22) and Dash (to F28).

Team Lake - Darius

Darius watches as Bjorn struggles to push their kayak from the large rock. Seeing that the craft was about to slam against the rocks Darius extends his hand. The air around the rock shimmers like a mirage on the desert and then folds in on itself. The next instant the rock is gone with a soft pop of displaced air. An instant later a similar pop comes from the right bank of the river as the stone reappears.

"That should make thing easier. We need to get to the center of the river to avoid the shallows."

With that Darius digs his paddle into the water to steer the kayak toward the center of the river and away from the rocks. He strains to fight the current.

OOC: Using a psi die to teleport hazard 3 out of the way. I will then try to move the kayak to Q14

Acrobatics to move kayak: 1d20+2 10
Lucky advantage for Acrobatics check: 1d20+2 18

So looks like they changed Lucky and it no longer is called after the roll. I rolled a second roll with lucky but did not call ahead of time. I'll spend a luck point if allowed to use my second roll. If not use my first roll.

OOC: Bjorn never did his acrobatics check to for movement, so he can do that if needed.

Torhak moves closer to the cliff to better see the cultists. He knows they will be able to target him too, but that can be dealt with.
Unfortunately, he focused too much on quick movement and how to hide afterwards, his pull was not smooth and the arrow just got stuck into the branches of the tree under which the cultist hid.

After the miss, Torhak deciced he needed to move closer. But not quite yet.

Move: T18
Attack: Bow vs cultist at x24: 1d20+5 = [3]+5 = 8; 1d8+3 = [6]+3 = 9
OOC: Thought about dropping prone, but that is half the move cost next round and I may want to move into melee. So...

Seeing the large rocks suddenly disappear, Bjorn worked his paddle along with Darius to avoid the shallows.

OOC: OK, as noted above, forgot to roll Bjorn's acrobatics check. Also forgot that Guidance lasts for 1 minute (concentration) and now affects all rolls for the chosen skill for that duration (I think it used to just affect a single skill check). Still absorbing these changes...
Acrobatics check with guidance: 1D20+2+1D4 = [11]+2+[2] = 15

OOC: Okay, I will (hopefully) come back & roll both groups' rounds later today. A few quick comments:
1) @VLAD the Destroyer I feel that having to declare Lucky ahead of time would almost certainly make everyone never remember to use it. As I have always allowed people to "remember" sources of Advantage after they've rolled a miss (such as using Inspiration), I'd still allow it here. I know that it makes Lucky very, very good, but otherwise it's not great. I'd rather it be fun. BUT... you don't need to use it here, because Bjorn has your back!
2) @Kobold Stew & @Neurotic. Where you both are, south near a switchback, it's easier to "cut the corner" by sliding down the ledge than it is back north where it's steeper & higher. It's dc10, and you "only" take 1d6 damage if you fail (I'll also say that you don't fall prone on a failure, you just slide on your bum and land on your feet). Or you can both just run around the corner. Up to you. (This is for next round, of course).
