(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Team Lake

The Lake Team had completed their bargain with Guldred the Outcast, but what then? It appeared to Shade-9's calculations that none of the Lizardfolk (perhaps not even Guldred himself) were happy with the idea that the small, weak, former outcast, would become their leader just because he had allies who had driven off the Usurper. They felt abandoned and leaderless, and they began to bicker and argue amongst themselves. They were far too disorganized now to pose a direct threat to Imani's Agents.

OOC: Is this a problem worth solving, or are you going to abandon them to figure it out for themselves?

Merrick swung his polearm where he'd felt the polearm make contact, hoping to connect more solidly - he hoped he wouldn't hit anyone else. He hit nothing. The wizardess must have moved. Having a dwarf and an orc was advantageous in the dark but there was little Merrick could do to help the combat in the pitch black.

He wanted to tell their enemies to surrender, but he felt sluggish and he didn't want to give his position away in the darkness while his reactions were slow. But just as he was having that thought, something inside him pushed the enchantment away. He moved towards the only voice he could hear.

OOC: Attacking same square as before which, of course, misses since the wizard is no longer there.

Move Merrick downwards diagonal.

Merrick makes his saving throw so he's not slowed next round.
save vs slow: 1D20+0 = [16]+0 = 16

Torhak grins in the darkness. While not casual with murder just for murders sake, he has absolutely no problem cutting down an active combatant slaver.

Even in his slowed state, he can move so that both his blades hit essentially at the same moment since the enemy cannot see it coming. And even if he could see in the dark, he couldn't see the dwarf wrapped in safe embrace of total darkness.

His attacks don't hit with full power, but the jolt of the hit and smell of fresh blood disperse last lethargy from his muscles.

"You may consider running now. If you drop your weapons and run away, I promise to let you go."
he whispers to the guard in front of him. His head is turned so whisper cannot really be pinpointed, but if the guard attacks, he is ready.

Not sure if second attack happens, it is free action part of Attack action...so maybe?
Total 14 damage
Action: Attack vs mercenary: 2D20.HIGH(1)+6 = [16, 4]+6 = 22;1D6+4 = [2]+4 = 6; 2D20.HIGH(1)+6 = [14, 19]+6 = 25; 1D4+4 = [4]+4 = 8

Save: Save vs slow: 1D20+2 = [12]+2 = 14 just barely! :)

As the darkness falls, Shamal pauses. With no enemies before him, the darkness causes his thoughts to stop racing, and then to still briefly. What ... what am I doing?

Shamal stands motionless for a second, and then sits slowly on the ground where he is, closes his eyes, and softly chants a prayer seeking the aid of djinn.

OOC:
Shamal sits where he is.

As Urgan holds on to the spellcaster, he feels bombarded with multiple images of her, flickering back and forth, in his grasp and outside of it. The mirroring spell she has cast continues, but he knows he has her, firmly by the waist. His allies aren't attacking so he drops prone, holding tight, and ready to grab her again if her wriggling body should break free.

Above them a light suddenly appears with the words "Enemy spellcaster here" and a flashing arrow pointing at her on the ground.

OOC: Move: drop prone. Attacks against her within 5' have advantage, others have disadvantage. Her move remains zero.
Action: READY. He's readying a grapple that will trigger if she escapes the grapple he currently has.
Bonus: cast minor illusion.

Team Lake - Aywin

Aywin calmly looks at Guldred "A blessing and a curse indeed! Perhaps you can let your brethren gain a consensus as to how they want to handle the future, and you can guide us to the cultists. What say you Guldred".

It is clear that Aywin does not want to intervene in the self determination of free people. He has a job to do and wants to move towards getting it done.

Copper AC:15 HP:32/31+5 HD:4/4 PP:14 CloudJ:1/2

"He really isn't going to give up, is he?" Copper quips about the persistent pursuer.

When the cultist lays flat to avoid incoming arrows, he grins as he leaps into action. Jumping across the gap from shore to shore he draws his twin scimitars and furiously pounces upon the unfortunate elf below him.

OOC:
Acrobatics to deal with finding footing while in the dark.
acrobatics : 1D20+6 = [17]+6 = 23
Moving to P-35 then running 10' to R-35' and using Second-Story Work to jump up to 18 '(based on dex) as part of my move action to clear across to T-35, and finally moving down adjacent to the cultist at T-37.
Copper will draw one scimitar as a bonus action using Fast Hands, and draw his other as part of the attack action.
Scimitars have the Nick property allowing for an extra attack with an off-hand weapon at no action cost.
Main hand attack
sneak attack with advantage VS prone target: 2D20.HIGH(1)+6 = [3, 9]+6 = 15 3D6+4 = [3, 3, 4]+4 = 14
Off Hand Attack
off hand attack with advantage vs prone target: 2D20.HIGH(1)+6 = [8, 2]+6 = 14 1D6 = [3] = 3
17 damage!

Team Caves

Torhak slowly stuck his knife into the mercenary while whispering in his ear. The mercenary cried out, suggesting his reluctance to continue toward the south, his only reasonable exit, "But I don't know what's down there!"

In the dark, Shamal came to his senses. On his knees, he felt the Djinn give him strength and clarity: It was the influence of Bhaal that had him acting so strangely; murderously. It was a curse, he was sure, and it came from his carrying the Bhaalite Idol.

Merrick thrust his polearm into empty air before realizing that Urgan and Valendra had moved behind him. The only things that he could see at all in the dark, damp, and noisy cavern was suddenly a softly glowing sign that was a few paces away over his right shoulder, and it pointed downward saying, "Enemy Here". It did not give enough light for him to make out the difference between Urgan and Valendra, though he could see a writhing mass of cloth and flesh that was the two of them, struggling below it.

Valendra was a wizard, and though she was fitter than most of her peers, she had no training in ground-grappling. The more she struggled, the more Urgan locked her down, until finally, fully unable to make her limbs move well enough to cast her better spells, she stopped struggling and said, "Stop! I yield! Keep your murderous companion away from me and we will parlay."

OOC: I don't think that Minor Illusion should give off much light, but I'll give it enough to see IT by.

Team Lake

As his people argued, sitting along the banks of the Pit of Teeth, Guldred thanked his allies for their part in sending the Usurper away. He had little prospect to become the next leader (in fact, there was a question of if his order of banishment still remained). He clearly wanted to stay and present his case, but he was willing to answer any questions that his allies had, or to lead them, at least temporarily, toward their goal.

OOC: What do you want to know? @SteveGorak @Lidgar @VLADtheDestroyer @Tonguez Maybe we should discuss OOC where you want to go next, or you should just carry your kayaks back up and out of the pit? I'm happy to move on with you. Guldred will go with or advise you as you prefer.

Team Infiltrate

The elf-cultist had thought himself far enough away and removed across the gap that he had only concerned himself with ranged attacks. He was wrong, as Copper's long legs carried him across the narrow gap and as the elf tried to scramble to his feet, the goliath stabbed him twice. They were both sharing a narrow ledge, and the elf lunged, catching Copper around his waist and shoving him toward the water, some twelve feet below them.

OOC: @Leatherhead Copper needs to make a dc12 STR or DEX Save or get shoved off the ledge. If he makes it by five or more, I'll say that he can side-step or toss the elf off and remain up himself.
