D&D 5E 5e EPIC MONSTER UPDATES

Wow. That's a huge amount of work. Can I suggest one set of tweaks?

Epic Legendary Resistance (base): no matter the situation, an Epic monster always gets a save or ability check as appropriate.

Epic Legendary Resistance (improved): no matter the situation, an Epic monster always gets a save or ability check as appropriate, and never suffers disadvantage when making such rolls.

Epic Legendary Resistance (greater): no matter the situation, an Epic monster always gets a save or ability check as appropriate, and always rolls such saves and ability checks with advantage.

Passing a saving throw or ability check then becomes a Legendary Action.

To be clear, you are suggesting that the save will cost a legendary action, it it not just a trait. Is that correct?

I've been moving away from legendary resistance in my newer designs and going with a version of my "Unstoppable" trait. That being said, I don't want a one size fits all solution and I like the idea that epic creatures should always at least get a save. These are appropriate for some of these epic threats. Thank you for the suggestion.

One peeve, mind: I see a number of the critters require a +x weapon to hit; we did away with that nonsense in 3.5E and I'm disappointed to see its return. One of the nice things about 5E is that even the baddest monster can be brought down by a horde of fanatical peasants.

Personally I don't like them either, but it was my first thought on how to provide levels of resistance to indicate different tiers of power among the epic monsters and gods. I have since come up with a better solution and they will go away in the 2nd drafts of these epics. However, I am going to complete all of the 1st drafts with the old system first (some people like the +x requirement).

Not entirely true, the WotC Tiamat and Tarrasque at least are immune to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage and I think there are others

If they're not killable then why provide stats? Fiction is replete with heroes killing gods with ordinary weapons or even their bare hands.

To be clear, many of these epic threats are not intended to be "killable" by 20th level PCs. You would need to use epic boons at a min., but really these are intend for PCs that are using rules (DMs Guild or homebrew) to go beyond level 20.

By the way, I was going over some of the updated folders, and I noticed that the Dragon Hall of Fame isn't showing anything for me. Is that something wrong on my end, or is there nothing there yet?

The dragons that were there: Cyan Bloodbane, Ashardalon, & Shen were removed because they are being updated. When the updates are complete they will be re-uploaded.

I have added the Daemon Sultan, Azathoth to the Aberrations section.

I tried something different with Azathoth. I remember reading my old Call-of-Cthulhu bestiary and in it Azathoth continuously grew after it was summoned. i don't know if that this is supported in the literature or just a creation of Chaosium, but I liked it and thought I would try to incorporate it into my 5e version. Let me know what you think.
