How long does the blindness last? Asherah is already blind, so she shouldn't need another save, right?

Since I didn't get a chance to go into town (in-game) can I at least pick up some weapons? I'm thinking a sling+20 bullets and 3 daggers. (If not, I can adjust my post. Just figured he'd have picked up some sort of weapons for survival. Having heard the horror stories of the newer initiates during his time there.
