People keep harping on the Evil deities. Am I missing something?
Not from my end, but I am not a Forgotten Realms junkie. Know the basics from various online sources and reading over a few books for ideas.

It seems that if you follow the FR novels the evil deities are really poorly written villains according to some.

Speaking as a forever DM who steals ideas from all over I did kill off Malar, but I would have expected him to go out sooner than say Shar or Umberlee. Tastes vary I suppose, and this is a popularity contest of sorts.

Cheers :)

Interesting side note -- the top 3 finishing evil gods in this poll (Talos, Auril and Malar) are all gods of fury.

Looking at what's left, there are eight good deities (Chauntea, Ilmater, Lathander, Mielikki, Selune, Sune, Tymora, Tyr), four neutral (Kelemvor, Oghma, Silvanus, Tempus) and two evil (Talos, Auril). The good gods outnumber the evil gods by a margin of 4 to 1.

I guess this makes sense. D&D is a heroic fantasy RPG, so it's reasonable that there would be more heroic gods than villainous ones.
