D&D General 6E But A + Thread

In a broad sense, yes.

Truth be told, I'm tired of new editions vaguely resembling the one before. 2e to 3e was a necessary break, but 3 to 4 to 5 has felt like whiplash. I want 6e to be a much more edited version of 5e which isn't afraid to make the major changes 2024 hinted at before backtracking. 5e has solid bones. 6e should keep them and focus on those changes that 2024 backed off of like spell lists or standardized subclasses.
But getting rid of ability scores in favor of just modifiers is too big of a change?

5.5 should have had that already, that it doesn’t is one of the reasons why I did not bother going with it. From a 6e I want more than that, but obviously different people want different things from ‘their’ 6e

I fear cell phones have been overly destructive to society. It is not just them of course, but the ability to have the internet, and all the associated distractive pressures, at our finger tips has been, IMO, a poison to our youth. Making that an integral part of D&D would not be a good thing IMO.

I am being only slightly hyperbolic when I compare it to meth. Both of those (meth and cell phones) were integral to the death of my daughter so I could easily be overly sensitive on this subject.
To be clear I was using cell phones as shorthand because of how they complicate certain film genres.

Although social media sending stones sounds like an awesome addition to Eberron.

Yeah, 2024 D&D should already qualify for what Remathilis was describing.

I am not sure either. I like ability scores, but I do wish they were more fleshed out.
personally, I think that DND would lose nothing if we axed ability scores, they serve next to nothing in current game.
multiclass requirement of 13? Just say +1 mod.
carry capacity? 150 lb base, +/- 30lb per modifier.
heavy weapons 15+. it's +2 mod.

Like i said, I would rather keep them and do something more with them rather than axe them.

maybe by people who have me blocked…

As to SotWW, I definitely think there are ideas in there that are worth a look, and definitely would take from the class design idea with the three tiers (choose a novice class at first level, expert at 3rd and master at 7th - with the game compressing D&D’s 20 levels into 10). To me that is a much better approach than what 5e currently has, yet familiar enough to easily slot in.

That is not the same as just changing the cover and calling it 6e however. It’s one inspiration among many, and it’s not like D&D hasn’t taken on outside influences and ideas in the past either
Look, I am not advocating it, I was just to explain the complaint.
