D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Rolling abilities is still extremely popular, there is some debate whether or not it is the most popular way of generating abilities, but whether it is still the most popular or not, it is still very widely used by tens of thousands of players and won't be eliminated. So anything that replaces current ability scores has to come with a method of random generation.

I do wonder if its more common to roll, than with Array or Point Buy.

(If people are rolling, then any discussion of 'balance' can be thrown out.)

-melee characters often don't/can't spec for both dex and strength so are worse when forced into using ranged weapons.

They can, many players just don't want to because they want to put a lot of emphasis on Constitution.

That is a choice IMO and one that has ramifications. Personally, this is why Constitution is usually my 4th highest ability and sometimes my 5th highest ability, because I don't want to suck at ranged when I am playing a strength-based melee combatant.

And rolling abilities is and remains a very popular option (maybe the most popular), so any system is going to have to come up with a reasonable way to do that.
you could just continue rolling the same way as now but only write down the bonus you derive from the value, not the value itself if rolling is so important to you. Personally I prefer an array

You can already do that, if it is official rules, it is essentially no change from the current system.

Like I said earlier, the only TTRPG I have played in the last 30 years is D&D, so telling me to check out something else does not answer the question. Just tell me how they do it.
I said in my response - IDK. Not on me to do your homework

Actually I just checked. You derive the scoreduring character creation but only to determine the modifier. Then you never see the score again.
