D&D 5E 9 1/2 Warlords

How will you participate in DM's Guild as a Warlord fan?

Tony Vargas

Legend
(This thread was created in the Temporary Warlord forum, it needs to be moved to the DM's Guild forum.)

This is a thread to highlight and review Warlord-related content from DM's Guild.

(And a poll, because marketing tells me they draw traffic.)

First up: A Fighter Archetype:

Warlord Martial Archetype
http://www.dmsguild.com/product/170957/Warlord--Martial-Archetype
A new option for fighters! Warlords are masters of the battlefield, dealing savage damage while 'supporting' their allies.

And, of course, another Fighter:

http://www.dmsguild.com/product/171718/Fighter-Archetype--Warlord
Wherever the sounds of battle ring, you are there, adding your martial prowess and thunderous battlecries to the symphony of war. Your tactical genius and way with words wins the hearts and minds of your allies, inspiring them to carry on through the rigors of combat while endearing yourself to them in peacetime. The force of personality and utilitarian battlecries of the warlord bring an exciting blend of support and martial might to your tabletop.

(This one does have better copy. )

And, some Maneuvers and yet another 'martial archetype':

5MWD Presents: Maneuvers & Commander
http://www.dmsguild.com/product/174898/5MWD-Presents-Maneuvers--Commander
27 new maneuvers for your battle master fighter.
And as a bonus (because 27 maneuvers isn't a lot of content) this products contains the commander martial archetype that provides another option to make use of maneuvers.

And, for a change of pace, a class named after a feat (a feat not in the SRD):

Martial Adept Class
http://www.dmsguild.com/product/170934/Martial-Adept-Class
The Martial Adept is a stance-and-maneuver-based pseudo-martial. Using a pool of power represented by adept points, they can switch between stances and deliver powerful blows via the maneuvers of their martial schools. The Martial Adept is loosely based on content of Tome of Battle: The Book of Nine Swords, which is owned by Wizards of the Coast. Mechanically, its stances and maneuvers are derived from the layout of psionic powers in the "Psionics and the Mystic" Unearthed Arcana from June 2015. Feel free to pay nothing for it, or come back and throw me a tip! Share with your play groups and change its content as you wish.

And, a class with, apparently, one sub-class for the Warlord:

the Magnate : Front and Center
http://www.dmsguild.com/product/171777/the-Magnate--Front-and-Center
The Magnate is first, and foremost, a commander. As a member of this Class you can take multiple Reactions and make use of various tactical maneuvers. Archetypes cover drawing on Akashic memories, casting Spells, or just being a plain ol' War Lord.

Those who remember the 3e-ish Miniatures Handbook, will recognize the name of this full class (and one of it's archetypes):

The Marshal
http://www.dmsguild.com/product/176929/JoLydees-Obvious-Arcana?term=JoLydee
The Marshal has archetypes for the Chevalier, Beast Handler, Skald, Healer, and Banneret.
In addition there are alternate rules covering combat options, non-player characters, general rule changes, and a quiz as food for thought.
The general flavor of these alternate and additional rules is to build a more story focused feel in your game and provide examples of rule changes you might make in your campaign.

It was already a Background, now it's a class:

The Noble
http://www.dmsguild.com/product/171842/The-Noble
The Noble is a staple of any fantasy world, making up the upper society of major cities, but even many small towns have nobles. The Noble relies of obediant followers fighting on their behalf, giving commands to their allies, belittling their enemies, using favors drawn from other nobles, and their own personal wealth. The Noble starts out with far more gold than any other class, allowing them to wear full plate at first level, purchase a magical sword, a fine mount, or maybe even a small estate. They also have special bonuses to their saving throws, and like the rogue they can use expertise with their skills. This PDF also includes two tables to help build your Noble, as well as three archetypes: The High Born Leader, the Aristocrat, and the Hindmost. The High Born Leader focuses more on combat and gets more followers; the Aristocrat focuses more on wealth, favors and personal skill; and the Hindmost focuses on giving commands, and their own defenses.

A 'complex fighter' entry:
The Weapon Master
http://www.dmsguild.com/product/178203/Weapon-Master-Complex-Fighter--Full-Class
There are many different kinds of weapons, each built for specific purpose in mind. Weapon Masters know each weapon intimately. To him, the difference between shortsword and scimitar is more than style, it’s also function. He knows which enemy to attack with a morningstar and which enemies get a warpick, and why you would use a club when you have a seemingly superior mace on hand. While their versatility leaves them slower than a more specialized warrior, they have far more tricks up their sleeves to use in a variety of situations.
Each short rest the weapon master can choose a few of the 38 weapons and gains a special tecnique to use with it. Each technique also improves at higher levels. In addition to 5 unique sub-classes (Defender, Guerilla, Marshal, Tactician, and Warlord), the weapon master is a martial class that is closer to a caster complexity.

And, finally, some Warlords:

The Warlord
From Jody Lee Johnson
https://www.dmsguild.com/product/179902/The-Warlord
Restore Hit Points, recuscitate the recently 'killed' and spur your allies to action. A non-magical support class for campaigns or players looking for a less magical means of aiding their allies.
A full Warlord class with subclasses for Skald - a battle musician, Diplomat - a director of others, Chevalier - steed and solder acting as one, Healer - focused on restoring hit points, Commander - leader from the front, and Beast Handler - using trained animals in combat.
This, also includes the revised Marshal which is a variant Warlord using Ki or life force energy to power the class abilities and healing.

Warlord + 3 Archetypes
From Christopher Koo Sin Lin
http://www.dmsguild.com/product/181162/Warlord--3-Archetypes
My Warlord is essentially a front-line/ just behind the front line character that sacrifices its own damage and versatility to enhance the party. It uses hit die to activate various of its abilities at higher levels, the archetypes are split between, healer+movement, Multi-attack+ coordinated strikes and enhancing allies that are bloodied. Hope you find it an interesting use for players who want a more support based character that isnt magical like a cleric or bard, but can still sit near or on the front lines.

A bundle of martial options including a Warlord class:

Exemplars of War - Player Options for Harness Martial Prowess
http://www.dmsguild.com/product/180...rness-Martial-Prowess?filters=45469_0_0_0_0_0
This document, themed around war and its battles, includes a player-focused orc race with four associated subraces, an updated Warlord base class that uses martial superiority dice and and can choose from a new list of martial maneuvers, and 13 class options or archetypes for each of the Player’s Handbook base classes.

As a bonus, for anyone who said they'd buy anything with 'Warlord' in the title:

CM1 Test of the Warlords (Basic)
From Wizards of the Coast
http://www.dmsguild.com/product/17114/CM1-Test-of-the-Warlords-Basic?it=1
CM1: "Test of the Warlords" (1984), by Douglas Niles, was the first of nine Companion-level adventures for Basic D&D. It was published early in 1984.

I picked #4, posting reviews for any WL stuff I buy.
I can also confidently say that # will be 0.

But as I'd like to get rich, I'm hoping that everyone else will pick #3. :)
I might not be a Warlord fan, but I'll write/sell you a new version everyday if it'll fill my coffers....

I might look at a subclass for something other than the fighter. Nothing regarding the warlord is interesting to me right now.

It'll be interesting to see how long this stays up, given that the Battlemaster's Maneuver system is not in the SRD:...

My understanding is that the SRD has no bearing on the DMsGuild products. The SRD is for OGL-based products.

The DMs Guild has open season on the rules and the Realms. A completely different opportunity and exactly the place for modifications of the full rules.

So far 2 full classes and 2 Fighter Subclasses.
.
Looks like they're all sub-classes or 'archetypes' (The last is a full class, of which sub-classes include some sort of leadery Monk, a spellcaster, and a Warlord).

Can't help it that every time I see the thread's title, it reads to me like: Nine half-warlords.

Which is kind of on the nose WRT your opinion of the kind of warlords we have available at this time. Heh.

4 1/3-warlords

Just as the EK is a '1/3rd caster,' fighter archetypes like these & the PDK are perhaps up to 1/3rd warlord.

Sorry, for some reason I registered the Commander as a full class, but it isn't. I only found the Magnate once I started doing broader searches.
