A few tidbits about Baldur's Gate 3.

As long as I can hit the space bar and pause the game, and hopefully give my party members new orders, I don't care if it is turn or real time, though I personally prefer turn based games.

I liked the prettiness of the Infinity Engine. Those backdrops were gorgeous. Compare it to the crude blocky 3D of the newer Neverwinter Nights... 3D isn't everything. Unless BG3 is lovelier than Morrowind, a top down view might be more visually attractive.

I really liked Baldur Gate's series because of the huge plot :)

When I tried to play it first time I let the combats roll I didn't like it very much, it was impossible to even conceive a little of tactic... I could only control the main PC and let the other keep shooting.
Then I tried the paused combat, thinking it would have been boring, and instead it was a hundred time better. Finally it made sense to call it a strategic game :p

ToEE was also quite ok, but the 3ed combat turn-based structure is effectively quite too static on a computer game... BG was better because it gave each action some "time to perform", so you'll never know when it's the PC's turn again, and also you basically did one action at a time IIRC, not like 3ed when each turn consists of more actions. The 3ed combat system is better as a P&P RPG because it's easier to keep track of actions, but when you have the PC doing all the math stuff, the BG's system was much better IMHO.

About graphics... mmh usually I prefer bitmap rather than 3D. The day someone will be able to do 3D textures without visible polygons or holes in the objects, then I'll switch to 3D with pleasure ;) But nowadays I prefer the visual results of 2D with basic perspective, like in BG or ToEE.

I just had bad trip with (IMO) spikey graphics on NWN compared to BG. I prefer the sprites.

TOEE is cool though, I don't mind that. The story and Dialogue is more important, so as long as it doesn't change stuff and be buggy like NWN, I won't mind.

Edit:

This is what I meant:

My thoughts...
The full turn-based system in Temple of Elemental Evil was not as enjoyable as the combat system used in the Baldur's Gate system.

I prefer intelligent scripts being applied to each character which determine how they will typically act. But of course the combat pause feature was essential in Baldur's Gate to redirect character actions, and to get off the necessary spell.

I definitely support, nomatter the system chosen, a close application of the 3.5 D&D rules.

So I am hoping for a original Baldur's Gate like combat system with a faithful implementation of the P&P rules going on behind the seen.

That's exactly what I was trying to say earlier in this thread ( thanks Gravyboat). I used the scripts and then every once in a while I would pause to chage strategies or get a spell off. The ToEE game just took tolong to fight anything.
