A little thing called Generating Reviews.

Crothian

First Post
AS many of you are awarre I took a break from Reviews for the ENnies. I was submissions Coordinator for the ENnies as well and that took a lot more time then I was expecting. Right now I'm sitting on an insane number of books I need to review. I'm starting back reviewing things today, but I do ask for your all patience.

Even on a good month I get more PDFs to review then I really have time for, and that's okay I don't mind that. To aid me though sometimes I ask for people around that I know to help out. In the past I've given them copies of PDFs I have. This has yields only a few reviews though. I'd like to try to do it on a bigger scale. I'd like permission from some you to give away copies of your PDF for review. I'd be giving them a copy and keeping one for myself to review. I will only do this if you tell me it is okay.

My goal is to generate more reviews for PDFs. I'll keep a list of everyone who I give things to and frankly I'm going to have a one strike policy. Once they fail to review something they get crossed off the list. I take my reviewing pretty seriously and try to do a good job, and I'm going to expect that from others.

Now if this in general sounds like a bad idea, please speak up. I know you publishers have a different perspective on this then I do. I basically work for all of you. Thank you.

As someone who's sent one to you for review, I'm all for it. The more reviews, the better!

PDF of Rolling the Bones: A Graveyard Supplement.

No problem, I guess you get sent a lot. I emailed and asked if I could send it to you and you agreed. Email is dkfitch (at) samford (dot) edu.

on a slow month I get a dozen, a busy month I get 4 dozen.

Would you mind resending that? I don't seem to have any e-mail from you or a copy of that PDF. I'm really sorry about this, its very unproffesional of me to lose track of something like this.

I don't have a problem with that, as long as the publisher couldn't be considered a direct competitor. In other words, nobody who publishes modern horror.

Also, it would be a good idea to make sure publishers aren't reviewing each other's work. In other words, publisher A reviewing B and publisher B reviewing A. Otherwise there could be the appearance of swapping favorable reviews. Not that we would, but we don't want people to be able to even draw that conclusion.

I could see some professional egos being hurt here, but since the reviewers are volunteers they presumably understand the consequences.

By the way-- did you get our copy of Fear Effects last month?

I think you might misunderstand. I'm looking to recruit new fan revewers from the EN World population, not ask publishers to start doing reviews.

My plan is to get a good collection of people that want to and are perhaps dare I saw consistant in doing reviews. I would hand out PDFs to them to review. I'm asking for publishers permission to hand out their books that way it becomes easier for everyone involved.

yes, I got that on July 5th
