A little thing called Generating Reviews.

I'd be happy to do a review every week. I've only just posted a review for a product by UKG Publishing. I'd just started to work on another three reviews for products that I've purchased when I saw this post.

I'm also up for one some reviews--I could probably only handle one or two a month, though, without taking too long to finish them.

Let me just say that what Crothian does is nothing short of remarkable. Amazing, really. Publishers should really what he does it an awful lot of work, for basically little reward.

At least in my experience, PDF reviewing is very tricky, because you have to spend tons of time at the computer - both for reading the product, and writing the review. Print stuff, you can at least read in bed or while sunbathing or at least, not being glued to a screen. (Even if he has a laptop, it's still quite a lot of computer time)

(No real point to this posting, other than y'all should really apreciate him. I've been working on some PDF reviews I somewhat foolishly agreed to do, and I'm quite late on them because these days I spend most of the day outside, enjoying the summer, and when I'm in with the computer, I'd rather either browse the net or play a computer game. Thus my admiration for Crothian. I don't think most people realize quite how much effort is involved.)

Funny, I have always been total opposite. I have always hated reading from a book, but I find online reading much much easier. Yeah, I said much twice. It was always a big problem for me in college -- reading a page two or three times and thinking "what the hell did I just read?" There's a reason my final gpa was 2.997, rather than 3.000.

Truth is stranger than fiction...

Oh, and All Hail Crothian, and all that jazz.

Thanks for the compliments guys, but I'm just a workling stiff trying to improve the state of reviews. :D

Anyone who reads this and would like to do a review please e-mail me at cgath@insight.rr.com

I haven't figured out all the little details but most of it is worked out in my mind. People who want to review will contact me and mention what type of books or a specific title they would like to review. I or the Publisher will e-mail them a copy of the PDF for them to review. They will read and write a review of the book. Assuming they do that, I welcome them to write another review. Basically I'm only giving out one book at a time to people. The reason I'm doing that is because too amny publishers hand out copies that never get reviewed. I know this since I'm part of the problem, I can't always review everything that gets sent my way. Hopefully, this will get the reviews the publishers and fans like to get and read as well as just take a little burden off of me.

Any questions or concerns at all from potential reviewers or publishers: post them her or if you want to bve anomomious e-mail them to me. Suggestions are welcome, criticism is welcome. Thanks.

I'd certainly like to see some reliable reviewers. It can grow frustrating shipping products out to fill requests and then never seeing reviews materialize.

Anything that increases the number of reviews is cool by me and mine. Thanks for putting the effort into this, Crothian. I assure you, it is very much appreciated.

so far five people have expresswed interest, and each got a PDF from a diufferent company. I'm going to try to spread it out so that all companies get about the same reviews, least in theory. THe companies with more books will have a greater chance of people saying they like something in there. And Derek, frankly I'm not sending yours out until someone gets at least a review under their belt since Murchad's Legacy Campaign Setting is not something I'm going to give a first timer. Its a big campaign setting but I hope I'll have some people willing to tackle it.

That might be the basis for an ad campaign I'm getting ready for:

Murchad's Legacy: size matters

I agree. I had a list of about 10 reviewers, which I just thinned down to 4, because the other six had not done any reviews for over 3 months (even though they promised they would.

These days when someone wants a free book to review, I will send them just 1 book at a time, usually a 17 Magic Items book. Yet even for a 12-page book like that, they usually do not come through with reviews.
